Scammers have recently targeted privacy-focused coins such as Monero and Zcash.
They have even created false URLs of applications such as Mymonero for Android.
In Zcash they have created false accounts on Twitter, where they have more than 6000 followers. They post false information on crypto distributions and even raise funds in ETH.
Many will wonder why criminals are targeting privacy focused coins and one of the reasons is that they can appear high in the results when conducting searches, it is much more difficult to get those results when it comes to Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The fake wallet problem only happens on Google Play, as the Apple store manually verifies every app update. This results in the Google store having thousands of scam apps.
Many of us know that scammers or hackers are very fond of those people who do not take steps to verify new applications.
Here are some tips to avoid downloading one of those scam apps.
1.- Look for references about the wallet on the internet. All of these have many reviews on blogs, youtube, social networks.
2.- Look for the recommendations of the developers.
3.- Include triple verification wallets.
4.- Make the first purchase for 10 dollars and withdraw the money, if everything turns out well, buy everything you are going to buy.
5.- Install applications with more than 100,000 downloads, with a 4-star rating and more than 1,000 reviews.
6.- Be very careful when acquiring coins such as Monero, Zcash and others focused on privacy.
7.- If you come across a false URL, report it to Google.
What do you think about the security measures?
Do you have any other security recommendations?
Did you know that the scammer who knows about apps spends an average of 2 days creating the app and spends less than $ 25 to publish their fake app?

The tips you mentioned here are very basic and necessary to watch out for another thing I want to add is the logo of the app to be downloaded must be clearly distinguished. I wish Google playstore can also embark on manual verification been a major app bank there should not so many scam.

Be it wallet or any other apps, I hardly touch anything online without making proper investigations. We just need to take more precautionary steps just as you have succinctly suggested.
Same here but I am more concerned with Google playstore because lots of people download their apps via playstores and if care is not taken by playstore it affects it reputation.

You are right about playstore. I have seen several tasks on microjob sites to leave positive reviews with 5 star ratings for apps and it makes me wonder how sure we are that those apps are tried and can be trusted. So, I even find it difficult to believe the reviews on Google play store.

That's the concern but I know that if an app can have more than 100,000 downloads it is likely going to be a reliable one because it might be very expensive for app developer to pay over 100,000 people or give a positive reviews.

thanks for the tips, i believe that everyone should see this before it's too late, as you can't be careful 24/7 and you can get scammed at anytime, especially that those hackers are literally everywhere

Forum ike this not only help us to earn but also gives us opportunities to get informed about lots of things going in the internet for us to be well informed and take caution when the need be.

Yeah what you have just listed are true the most important thing is to check the number of download and rating , because more people have used the site

Before reading this news, I was 100% confident downloading any application that I found in the Google Play Store, now I realize that I was lucky and from now on I must take some time to review the application and even look for references on other pages, not only get carried away by the references in the Play Store.
Luckily this forum motivates people to read and post, that helps us immensely to find out about the latest events.
Hopefully soon they will begin to manually verify each new app from the Play Store.

Yeah even if they verify it from play store and it seems legal ,those scammers can change after it has been verified thats the issue there I think

I always advice people that when doing something online or doing transactions, always read reviews of people or do your researches yourself,it will save you

For something the Apple store is very safe, they do a manual verification, which means that no complaints have been heard about scam applications

I do that now, but before I did not pay much attention to the issue of computer security.

Wondering why people are still trying to use other wallets when there are already a couple of legit wallets that supports a wide variety of cryptocurrencies

I am also impressed by that, perhaps it is because they like new things or had some mishap with the well-known wallets by all

or probably that they are being lured? I've seen new wallets trying to lure some people by saying they have this unique feature that no other wallets have, or they have lower transaction fees than other wallets, I guess lack of information with crypto makes other people susceptible to scams

We would say that people are carried away by the call of the siren song and are hypnotized to put their money in new wallets, all to save a tiny amount of money

yeah I guess so, I myself am not even using other wallets other than the trusted legit wallets I currently i use, like its just a waste of time to use a sketchy wallet for no reason

Unfortunately most people learn when unfortunate situations happen with their security, hacking, theft, etc.
I wish there was a way to force everyone to prepare for these types of situations
