QA-World is a transcription company that hires people to transcribe audio files into word documents.

You can go to their website and register an account with your Facebook account. Like all transcribing companies, there is a test that you'll need to take.

After passing a test you can work there.

They usually pay 0.20 cents per audio minutes.

The company requires that you have a PayPal account and this is how they pay you.

Ammmm
0.2 cents?? You sure the post doesn't need a correction? I mean it should have been 0.02 dollars at least because 0.2 cents for a minute is too little

I worked briefly for QA World and really rather liked it. The test is a piece of cake and they pay on time every single time. I can also vouch for the support being great although the rate is not all that. I just got fed up with the bad quality audio files. It's ideal for learning the ropes before moving onto better-paid transcription work.

That sounds great. I have never tried any transcription sites. I wonder if I can work using a smartphone or do I need a laptop? It would be really great to learn a new skill. I am also glad that it pays via PayPal.

From my experience of working with QA World, it's truly a fantastic platform through which to learn the ropes and earn your transcription stripes. They prefer that you use a laptop or desktop. I know some people do try to work from their phones, but it's discouraged as the system isn't compatible with them. It's not the best paid but I'd highly recommend it to newbs.

I passed QA's test two years ago and has given access to the website. But they have bad audio files, so I have decided not to push through anymore. I don't have the patience to listen to such a thing.

I understand totally where you're coming from. That's the very reason I decided to stop working there. I really struggled with the American and Australian dialects, especially when the audio was especially bad. However, I felt that the support was fantastic, something I've heard can be lacking elsewhere.

That is the major problem that everyone finds when trying to transcribe audio files. Even though they pay you 20 cents a minute for the audio file you will spend way more time transcribing the file then you will ever earn or make it worth your while.

Yup! I read somewhere that on average, an hour-long audio file roughly translates to about 4-5 hours of transcription work. So, you spend all that time trying to decipher what's being said and ultimately receive a few cents for your efforts, if that. On QA World, if your script is rated below 3 out of 5, you get nothing. It's such a waste of time.

There are some good transcribe sites but right now it is impossible to get into them and there aren't enough jobs right now for everyone who works on these sites. On some sites, the waiting list is so long and it is hard to get a position on these sites. That basically leaves you with sites like this that are not so wonderful to work for because of the quality of their audiotapes.

It's such a shame that they aren't accepting new members right this minute. But which ones are these, do you mind sharing? And when you say there are some 'good' transcription sites, do you mean they are good based on the fact that the audio files are of superior quality? I always thought transcription sites all had terrible audio files.

Hi and welcome aboard the 'BMF train'. The only transcription site I've worked for and would recommend is QA World. Their test is very easy, so it's not difficult to pass it. I also like the community spirit and admin support there. Passing the test is only the beginning and the rules are strict. If you don't maintain good scores, the system automatically deletes your account. The site never stops hiring so you can give it a shot.

Payment Proof ?

I don't bother with those, to be honest. I have no affiliation with the site and no longer work there, so this is no fake review?? I guess people just have to take my word for it and/or wait for someone else to corroborate what I'm saying. I think it's by far the easiest transcription site to get into, the test is THAT easy. Plus you almost always receive an AI-generated script, so you don't start from scratch.

I signed up with QA world months back and to me they have one of the easiest tests ever. The community support is so unique and I only have good things to say about them. Some audio files though....hence my pulling out.

I feel exactly the same way as you! I absolutely loved working for QA-World and appreciated the support from the staff. But I felt it was too much hard work for the amount you're paid. I loved it when I got British audio files because I lived over there for ages and worked in the contact centres. But I really, really struggled with some American regional accents and found some Australian ones even worse. In the end, I decided to bounce before I fell desperately out of love with it.

You are so right! Had no problems with British files and some American ones but there are others that no matter the methods I employed they were like tough puzzles. I even got a file at a time where the customer was half asleep throughout the whole conversation. It was a bit tiring I tell you.

Hahahaha OMG half asleep!???? I bet that was a nightmare to transcribe. Do you remember what you scored on that? I struggled the worst with the regional Australian ones but what I observed is that the reason quite a few of the files I picked were so hard to understand was because most of those people were not in the right frame of mind - I won't say too much on that out of respect for the site! But it was really weird!! And of course, the speech then became so distorted or they mumbled so much it was pure hell to work out what they were saying. I'm glad I quit.

It was a 2. I found it difficult to even know where to use ...(ellipsis) because there were too many cutoffs (like she dozed off or something, LOL). At the end I submitted what part of the conversation that seemed intelligible enough and got a 2. It was a bit of funtime looking back now.
