Paypal is a secure payment processer and it is recognised and is recommended by many companies. I recently signed up for Paypal and then went to my local bank with Paypal payment system and issued with am ATM. I opened my Paypal account and tried to link it. A message kept popping up telling me 'This card can't be linked. Try another card'. What could be the problem?

My Paypal is connected not to an ATM but to a credit card. I don't know if a Paypal account can be linked to an ATM or a debit card. When I have enough balance in my Paypal, I withdraw the money directed to my ATM. So that's the connection of my ATM to my Paypal account, the ATM is a receiver of withdrawal only. Maybe you can read the regulations of Paypal regarding the linking to a card.

You'll need a debit card that can be accepted anywhere in the world. It could be a Visa Card, a Mastercard or an Amex card to name but a few. Good things is these companies are partnering with banks all over the world to issue prepaid debit cards to the banks' customers. Just ask your bank if they issue any of them cards.

If they don't then I'd suggest that you apply for a Payoneer Prepaid Mastercard. You can get one within two weeks.

Some cards are not accepted internationally, hence you cannot connect your card to Paypal. This is usually due to the cards requiring 2-step authentication in some countries, which is not a standard in America and most other countries. You have to use a credit card if you live in a country which mandates 2-step authentication.

Paypal doesn't have the same rules for every country, try to get in contact with them to see if they accept the card you are planning on using.

It is not just a matter of country, even within the same country different machines from different banks accept different cards. You need to look on the card and see what the inter-bank network and whether it is an international inter-bank network like Cirrus or PLUS. If it is you will probably be able to find a compatible ATM. If not, you might have a problem.

I think PayPal only allows you to link your credit card with the account. Sure, I can be wrong about this, but I've noticed that they try to make me connect my credit card on their site but never ask for my ATM one. It can also have something to do where you live so you should contact either your bank or PayPal staff about that.

Are you on paypal supported country? If you are not, you can create account, but cannot verify with bank or cards.
If you are in paypal supported country, check whether the card or bank account you have also deal with international transaction. If your card/bank is local only paypal does not accept these cards/bank account.
Try to link your paypal with your bank account if it rejected your card.

I think I can answer your problem! Actually, I experienced the same problem few months age. I live in India and my bank account had a 'RuPay Card' (Debit Card) which was not permitted to use globally. So, I requested the bank to provide me 'Master Card' as this card is acceptable all over the world. I was successful in linking the card to my PayPal account. So, I would recommend you to issue an international card that is accepted all over the world like Master Card, Visa Card, etc.

I think any issue such as what the OP as had is very hard to answer on a forum like this, because all we can do is just speculate due to the limited facts we have been given.

All the answers to the OP are right, but it could be any one of those issues or even all of them. The only people that can help on this will be PayPal themselves, as only they and the OP know what country they're in, what card and what bank is being used.

I linked two credit cards to my PayPal account with no issues. I have never tried to link a debit card as I don't think I have the possibility of doing so. I can't transfer fund to my bank account as this option is not available for my country. If I have to withdraw some money then I usually have to transfer it to my credit card.

I Don't have any credit card and actually i never felt the need for it. I have my debit card linked with my PayPal and actually Indian users cannot keep the money in PayPal and that's why we need to transfer that to our linked bank accounts.

I only know we can link our PayPal account to credit or debit card, or our bank account. Some ATM cards are also debit cards, so I think they can be linked too. I am not sure if your ATM card can also be used as a debit card. I guess it'd be better if you can contact PayPal support personnel, so you can get your answers straight. Do update us too! Thanks! ;)

I experienced this issue as well. My debit card has expired, and I renewed with the same bank account number. My bank account number is still there, and can withdraw using my new debit card. However, adding my debit card number shows the same message as yours. I ignored it because I can use my bank account number to withdraw with the same debit card.

Singh if you get money in paypal will it directly get transferred to our bank account?? FYI, i already linked my debit card with paypal and its now in autowithdrawl mode. Unfortunately i don have pancard but it keeps pinging me to update pancard details. Will i get any issues in withdrawing money without pancard?? Please clarify

I think your PayPal account is old. As far as I know, we cannot have a PayPal account without Pan card. You need to enter the details of Pan card as soon as possible as its mandatory these days to have Pan card for all Transactions.

I don't use debit and credit caard on paypal. I jjust use them directly. I don't have to be puppet on paypal's rules. I am already paying more transaction cost and more currency conversion cost. So wasting time adding cards adds no value. That being said, it'd be fair to say that in such case you can use other local options instead of paypal. I don't see much value of paypal these days. PTC sites, freelancerr sites are giving up on paypal.

Check with their customer service officer, email them instead of guessing here and there.
Their service is very good. I have 2 time dealing experience with them.
At the end, they not only solved my problem, yet gave me USD10 as appreciation token each time. I were rich at that time.Haha!
