The South Wales Argus, Newport's daily tabloid, points out that the computer engineer, James Howells, in 2013 accidentally disposed of a hard drive containing 7,500 BTC while cleaning his house as a result of mining activity when it was still possible to mine with the CPU.
The affected party introduced a new request to excavate the landfill where the garbage that contained the hard drive was disposed of and possibly recover the device.
Faced with successive rejections by the city council, the affected party now offers 25% of the lost Bitcoin value as a donation to the city. At the current price at the time of this writing, the BTC was worth $ 39,750, multiplied by 7,500 BTC, would give us an estimated value of $ 298,125,000, which would be about $ 74 million for the city if it recovers the hard drive successfully.
What do you think of Howell's story?
I feel identified because in 2011 I began to mine BTC, I did it for a few months, intermittently, but I already had a certain amount, after a while the hard drive was damaged and the keys were lost, so say that for lost, I am one of the many people who have lost BTC in this way.
