Follow Along My Blogging Journey - Trying to be different

I want to share my journey in blogging.
It would appear that a lot of people here merely blog to promote their referral links. Now I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but I don't want to do that. I want to share my thoughts, write good quality content, write what I want to write, share a part of who I am.
So I'll update you from where I started to where I am now.

It starts at this very forum. I wanted to help people out with their questions, and so I signed up. When I realised I could get paid for this, I started on my blogging journey

A while back, I started writing for the Medium Partner Program. I thought that Medium was a great company - there were no ads (the income came from the people who paid a monthly fee) and Medium seemed like a great place to share my opinions, with great, interesting discussions sprouting from many of the posts there. So I gave it a shot aaaand... well, nothing. None of posts really gained traction, and because non-members are very heavily restricted in terms of partner program stories, no new people could really read my posts. As a result, I earned zilch. Nada. Nothing. Until recently - a bit more on that later!

At a similar time I also realised that I had signed up for a steemit account (ictman1076) ages ago and never used it. So I started using that. And that got a bit more traction - people actually saw my posts, and I was actually getting a few cents chucked my way in return! As a result, I recently announced that I was moving from Medium to Steem. A bit of a rash decision, as I found out today.

One of my posts (Yeah, Linux Sucks. But the alternatives are worse) got picked up by Medium's curators. My viewership was multiplied one-hundred-fold! I actually got paid that time, and it's not a sum to be sniffed at. I also gained 7 followers.

But I'm not sure if I'll keep writing for Medium. Their earning system is great when they like you, but rubbish if they don't notice you. Steem is more balanced, more community-driven. So perhaps I will start posting to Steem more often, because I love the community behind it, but perhaps I'll keep posting to Medium, see if I can get noticed again.

I guess time will tell. I'll aim to keep this updated with my advancements :)

The article on Medium's now made over $10 now, and is still receiving claps! Week 3 earning stats are posted on 24 Jan so I'll update you when I get them. It seems that really, you need Medium to promote your post to get any sort of recognition. I haven't actually been paid yet, as I need to enter taxpayer information.
On the steem side of things, I earned about 0.1 steem power, which will help me earn more steem in future. I was able to split it 50/50 into power and steem, but I decided I need to up my steem power as much as I can.

I didn't realise BMF had a blog. Where can I find it?

Another $8 in the bank from Medium :)
Post engagement has slowed down now so I guess that's the end for that post, but maybe for future posts? Who knows :p

You're doing well with that and the article now has 155 claps. Congrats! It's a good read too - entertaining and definitely refreshing.

Thank you :)
I've sort of run out of good ideas atm - I don't want to write for the sake of writing. I'll come up with something soon lol
