❓ASK More accurate ways to determine a website's age?

How to determine a website's age? Most people who know SEO or have a blog will answer - through Whois, by looking at when the domain of said website got registered. But then there's a problem with this method since website owners might simply move his old website to a new domain or using old domain that has been registered by the website owner before him, thus rendering this calculation method worthless. Now my question - is there a more accurate way to determine a website's true age?

Well, maybe for some who are technical gurus, there may be accurate ways but personally, Whois has always been my go to. However, your analysis just made me realize how inaccurate that may be.

In accurate way I am not really sure, but you can try Waybackmachine to find out in what niche a domain was, if it has any historical in changing hands from one to another webmaster, or it is still in the same hands (webmaster) only changed in niche.

You can do research about a domain from it's previous content. Not precisely tells you about how many times it has passed from one hand to another. But at least you can get clues about the life of a particular domain.

About age of a domain, it a permanent fact. Actual life span of a domain is provided on its whois information. No one can change that.

Just my two cents, I might be not provide the exact answer you are expecting. But I hope it helps to bring more advance idea.

Use High Resolution Mode to help Google Maps find your location with a more accurate blue point.

Open the Settings app on your Android phone or tablet.
I never knew there are things like to check the location of a site I mainly make use of whois data to check information about the site I will check this out

I've always wondered about that and could never work it out. I find it confusing when you know a site's been operating for years yet it states the current year at the bottom. Does anyone know what that's about? I find it weird because I would have thought the longer sites have been operating, they'd want to put it out there because it gains people's trust and gives the site more credibility.

You can check in archive.org (way back machine)this is a great indicator. Another option is Whois command on every Unix/Linux box.
Both cases just show when a domain first time has been registered but no changes in ownership.

What is the relevance of a website's age to people? I thought it's only quality of posts that matters since someone can have a very old website with poor content

For starter, older domains tend to have better SEO metrics already because of the former website metrics are still attached to that domain, so it's sometimes better to get older domain name as long as it fits your niche. The other reason is to avoid getting sandboxed by Google. The explanation for this is rather long, So I won't do it here. Simply google it.

There is a particular site I saw some months back while making some research, it can actually be used in finding out the age of the site and the year it was actually created. I think I would find the link and post it here later on, all you have to do is copy and paste the link of the site you want to check.

Usually the best and most efficient is using some tools that can be able to give you the age information of the the website. some of the most common free tool is dormain age checker.

Though this is an approximation age that you get about the website.

I hqve using Whois to check but never knew there could be inacurracy on that. If there is still a better way to get that done i will learn for the first time

I used small SEO tools website to determine the domain name age, page authority as well as domain authority. Sometimes you can simply copy the URL of the domain name and paste it in Whois to determine the age of the domain name. Whois we provide you with all the necessary things you need to know about a domain name. If the owner of the domain name did not sign up for privacy protection with the registrar. You can even get some of their personal details like name phone number and email.

Google and other search engines may display the date they first indexed a website in their search results. You can use Google's cache tool to discover when Google last crawled the site. Enter "cache:[website URL]" into the search bar.

One way is to use the "wayback machine" on the Internet Archive website. This tool allows you to view the history of a website, and you can use it to see when the site was first created. Another way to check the "Whois" records for the domain name.
