I post this question in behalf of my friend, he wants to start a website but he have no money to invest. Can you point me to companies that are offering free webhosting + free .com domain?

Unfortunately I doubt you will ever find such an offer anymore otherwise I'm sure a lot of people would be using it and advertising it for others to benefit from as well. There are several free hosting sites that will offer you free subdomains, and .com domains can be found for quite cheap if you look around the internet for discount codes & promotions etc. Your friend could get a .com domain for about $0.99 if he looked around properly :)

I think getting a dot com domain from Namecheap for as low as 99 cents is almost free to me that less than a dollar but if you still need totally free one then visit Awardspace .com and get one with a shared and semi dedicated hosting plan even with free.org,.net and .info.

there aren't any companies that offer free domains of .com but you can use coupons to get them on 0.99$ and after taxes its 1.17$ to be precise godaddy usually have this offer but i recommend namecheap as their support is good if you are not a technical person who can handle issues of your web in future if there arises any

If you have confidence in your idea just pay up. Otherwise he will have to do some beermoney work to finance it.
A few dollars should be easily possible, and if he wants to make a site, he has to put work into it anyway.

A .com is cheap as others said, and there are threads on this forum that will tell you where to find cheap webhosting.

The search for something free will be longer than working to get some funds for the site.

Most of companies do not make money by selling domains with money and no more to give them for free so i dont think there is any...

I recommend namecheap for a free domain. There are lots of free domains available like .tk, .ml etc. If you are a beginner then you can try these free domains. But remember these free domains are not for professionals. The best ideal domains are .com, .net, .us etc.
