Here is a story. I had website MovieLinks with movies (click on link for review topic). Free domain .ml on Freenom, free hosting company from Croatia.
I was active there as admin some time, but I gave up from project many months ago (at least 6 months ago). Domain expired, even hosting company is closed.
I checked that domain today and I see somebody else got it and set new free hosting company on that domain.

And that is all okay until I didn't check my Google Analytics account.

I didn't remove codes from the site and since everything else is closed it should show 0 visitors but it didn't. According to Analytics, account show last month 14 users from different countrys and some organic search.

How is this possible? Are those results from Google bot or real users?

Here are some images from Analytics.

Never heard of this and as I imagine, this is not possible...

I also don't think it is possible, but from where this views are coming? What dana does Analytics follow? Until few days I didn't know there is new content on that domain.

if you are actually surprised that you're getting views out of nowhere , try to make your website inaccessible for a while and see the results , if they remain the same , then your 'theory' is true , if not , then your theory is 'wrong' ( as i think as well xD )

I can't do that since domain or hosting account is not in my ownership anymore. Like I post, hosting Company is completely closed. Their system of free hosting was bad and they didn't last long.

Since the domain is now used by another person I'm thinking that stats might be showing up from the activities of the new site that was previously linked to that analytics. Well, I'm thinking this.

It's possible that your Google Analytics account is still tracking data from your old, expired domain. This is because Google Analytics uses cookies to track user behavior, and these cookies can persist even after a domain expires.

Hey,

It's possible that the traffic you're seeing in Google Analytics could be from bots or crawlers, including Googlebot, rather than real users. When a domain expires and is picked up by someone else, automated bots may still access and crawl the content. This activity might register as visitors in your analytics.

To get a clearer picture, you can check the traffic sources in Google Analytics. If the majority is labeled as direct or organic search, it's more likely to be bots. Real users would typically come through various referral sources.

Hope this helps clarify the situation!
