most of the miners i know are mining and saving the earnings to another day once the value gets higher , also you have to undervolt your rig to reduce the electricity cost for more earnings.
is it still profitable ? well it depends on your rig

Powerful rig requires more electricity and hence the cost will be more. Instead of investing in buying rigs for gpu mining , I suggest legit cloud mining sites like Bitluck , viabtc , eobot.

I think yes, I saw people buying cheap Graphic cards from Aliexpress and other china stores and mine with it and get some profit
but you need to do the math how much odes it cost you and also the electricity bills and if it's legal in your country because in some countries is illegal

I suggest you to buy some RX 5700 and start mining Ethereum Classig in solo mining. you can get between 50 Mh/s and 56 Mh/s per card on Ethash mining algorithm.

I think he would rather not spend if he has to cover the cost of an additional graphics card. That thing's at least 200 bucks.
