Should I buy SSL for my ecommerce website?

I don't think buying SSL will rank your site in top, It is just considered as secured site. I too own a E-commerce, but still not yet developed and it remain as http in url structure.
Every E-commerce site comes with Https so you too go like that, if you have small cart, then get develop it before buying SSL.

Google won't care a fig if you have that S in your HTTP, but anyone who knows anything about online security will probably look for the https first thing when determining whether or not they'll do business with your site. I doubt I would bother with a site lacking even that form of encryption.

SSL is really important regardless of the kind of website you are trying to build, you might find it difficult to rank without it cause on Google's now considering it and marking non https website as insecure since last year.
BTW SSL are pretty cheap to get (if not free), i don't see a reason why you shouldn't use it.

Afaik it also somehelps with your ranking in SEO if your site is https

Plus google chrome showing "not secure" in http only sites. Think about it If I was a regular joe wouldnt want to transact with something labeled "not secure"
