I do have some stock of the business cards but I have yet to fully use them. And it can be pretty frustrating that I don't get much chances to offer them to other people. Most of the work if done online, then the business cards can be of less value. And offline connections are harder to form. In such context I am trying to understand how to effectively get connections with the business cards.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions on how to handout business cards and get new customers or connections?

Myth: Offline connections are harder to form.
Truth: You can join local trade fairs initiated by different school organization and other government sectors.

Done that when I was still a student.

join meetup and find meetup events near you go there and share your business card there

Lol! you don't just go there and start distributing your business card. If you do that, they will probably not take you seriously.

My advice is similar to what was stated above, find a local online community that is related to your career choice e.g FaceBook group.

Start a conversation and build a reputation for yourself. You can do this by posting useful information on a regular base. You can also come up with other ways that will make alot of people remember you in the community, starting a conversation online IMO is alot easier than real life.

After that, lookout for when such community is hosting a local get together, try to attend. That time most members will be eager to meet you and introduce you to their friends. That way you can easily exchange your business card with them.

.........
I know this stuff takes time but you can always look for other methods. This is just my advice.

You can still meet people in your locality and local assembly that knows you Abit and can vouch for your reputation and give them the cards. You might not get sales directly from them but don't forget you can get good referrals from them.

Like my teacher said one time: Go into bar where people from your niche are hang out. Buy them drink, introduce yourself and give them card. Maybe they don't need your services now, but there will be time when they will need.

I like your input, to get connection via offline you need to be more creative, go local to win people's mind by offering them quality services they struggle to get from outside, give them your cards and they will surely get back to you.

Business cards are not the problem, it's your relationship with your client(s) that matter the most. Give them good product/services and they will ask your contact info.

business cards are mostly made for for offline businesses and not online ones , covers and banners are equivalent to them in online business because they have everthing included from the information to contacting details

This is interesting...
Sometimes, you can give people trials on your business even though they don't respond on time ,they will come for it someday...business is of risk taking.

Ya its very important if you own a business offline, you can design and own a business card that can be distribute to people this card describe the nature of your business what you do and how to get in contact with you.

Yeah, l think my view and yours are too similar. Business cards are mostly designed and used for offline businesses. They may contain the nature of the products the business deals in and some other information that aimed at promoting the business to the people those cards are given.

Business card are made for offline mostly and even online as well.. I think your relationship with your client or people you meet on a daily basis should be good. Offer them services and give them your business card.. even on vehicles, go to schools, organisations, church, even your neighborhood you can as well distribute your cards and someone somehow will know someone in need of your services and they will definitely call you.

Use of business card in getting customers can be achieved by handing business card to existing customers who then refers their friends with it . Also sharing your business card to people after talking about your business to them will also help

It is a plus to every business because customers believe that the business must have been registered and secure if it has complementary card.

Giving out business cards can be very frustrating. You have to work hard to get people to collect it. And even that doesn't guarantee them using your services or buying from you.
Some people might even collect it and throw it away.
Best thing is to go for meet ups for business people and convince them of the benefits of your business then offer your business card to them.

Yes that is true you need to work hard to get clients, you can distribute the card in churches and other place where people gather,as you said some people can collect it and throw it away that is none of your business, but before you distribute the card you need to know the type of person who you give out the card he must be well responsible and not someone who will just collect the card and throw it away.

It depends on the services you render really. You can organize an event and pass your cards to your guests who attended. Events can be discount sales, educative seminars, retreats. These kinds of events are more effective as guests at the event are already interested in your range of services.
