Domain is a name which defines your website. Selecting a good domain name is very important as it also plays a role in bringing traffic to your website. And basis the popularity of that particular domain, a good domain can even be sold for thousands of dollars also.

I know that .com is the best for your domain, if possible. But is it the only criteria, behind choosing a domain, which should be kept in mind? Or one should go with maybe .net/.co/etc., if there is a slightly better domain name available with them.

Also, what else should be kept in mind in selecting a good domain name? How to come up with a name, which fits my website, has high monetory value and can also help me in bringing good traffic?

it all depends on many factors. The topic of the site itself, in what language it will be. Is it possible to take a domain name in a zone other than com. If there is a possibility, then you need to compare with what is in com and net.
What is the priority of com and net? In that Verisign registers and manages two root servers + these are some of the very first domains.
I personally choose com. If not possible then net. And only after that there is a rebound in other zones, but I will most likely give up those other zones.
How to choose a domain - I would say that this is almost a whole "science". And each has its own technique, and it is unlikely that someone will reveal it.

Do you mean your domain name or extention? If you mean domain name, then you are the solely chooser of that one. You may however choose it based on the service you intend to render with it. You can however choose your extention based on whether its activity, com means commercial, org means organisation, net is network.

It's crucial to your online success to pick a domain name that's simple to type. The likelihood of a visitor mistyping or mispronouncing your domain name increases if it is lengthy or complicated. The key is brevity and ease of understanding. Including the name of the city or region in which your company operates can help locals find and remember your website.

Apart from the fact that you need to choose a domain name that is not that lengthy, there is still need to choose the ones that will be easier to pronounce. When a website can be pronounced, there is tendency that it may be easy to remember as well. This is the golden rule of choosing a domain.

Undoubtedly, the best domains are those ending in .com, but if the site is informational, any domain will do. Organic traffic is more directed to these domains that I mentioned, I would like to know the real reason for that too. If anyone knows tell me here hehe

The temptation to use a number or hyphen to make a distinctive domain name may be strong, but doing so may make it more challenging for users to remember and type your domain name accurately. Think about using the most well-known and popular.com domain extension.
