Well, there are hundreds of thousands of dropshipping business and some owners earn from 5 to 7 figures doing dropshipping fulltime and I cannot see why you should not at least try, maybe you will have success too.

How dropshipping works explained:
1 - the customer purchases an item from your own online store at retail price
2 - You forward the order to your supplier - you pay wholesale
3 - Now your supplier will ship to your customer under your business name

Dropshipping business plan:

Step 1. - find a profitable niche: you should take couple good hours if not days to figure out what are you gonna sell, will you go for hot items, seasonal items, trending items, will you stay under the 2kg per item limit to avoid paying extra for shipping? On average dropshippers will go for products that are at least $20 and up to $250, not more than this because will become harder to sell. Also here you must check the demand for that specific item on the market and do a lot of research on your competitors, there's high chance someone is selling already what you trying to sell. You can learn a lot from them and improve your store.

Step 2. - find dropship suppliers: critical choice for your new business, having a supplier with enough stock and deliver products to your fresh customers in time is super important. So my advice is to choose suppliers with good experience, must provide fast shipping, must have quality products so your customers will be happy and buy more from you as well recommend your products to their friends, and charging small order fees not more than $4.

Step 3. - get sales Tax ID: getting into products selling requires paying taxes to the state you belong to, this is about 10% of the sale price, you should get this at your local county clerk's office or google it online.

Step 4. - chose the selling platform: here you must choose between biggest marketplaces in the world, eBay, Amazon, and Etsy. For access, there are different fees and can go up to 15% per sale from what I read. There are more selling platforms, check local ones as well, it matters a lot what you gonna sell.

Step 5. - create your online store: for long-term, it is best to create your own online store using Shopify or similar tools. By doing this you cut fees, you have bigger profits and you have full control, and let's not forget you don't rely on anyone else's platform. The downside of this is that it requires bigger investment upfront, a higher risk of losing more money if you don't have success with your dropshipping business. And very important you will have to deal with Search engine optimization so that you rank on Google SERPs(this takes time).

Step 6. - start promoting your store: this is where many drop shippers fail, they have more expenses in getting clients than making a profit, there are many choices to drive clients, you will need to start buying either Facebook ads or Google ads for fast results, contact YouTube Influencers for reviews, for slow results you have to contact big blogs and big forums and mainly do content marketing, basically post articles with a link back to your store so it drive traffic, increase your authority and hopefully new sales. I don't recommend social media marketing and email marketing, you will need to spend too much time posting updates and requires huge following to get decent sales, this strategy used to works couple years ago before Facebook fan page update, now Facebook urges you to buy posts promotion to reach your own followers. You get the point.

I have personally tried it out and it does work but a lot of effort and time is required, especially finding trending products. Once you reached a certain size, you will need to invest in virtual assistant and system like repricing and many others. But remember it is like other business, it need time to build

@paidsurveyadvisor it's good to hear from you who have tried it. Apart from putting in a lot of time, was there anything you found extremely challenging with dropshipping? I'm gathering information on this system. Thank you.

The challenge is that you need to adhere to ebay rules or shopify costing. If one day they decided to change and does not allow dropshipping, then what u built will be down the drain. Taxes is something we cannot change too. That is the reason now I am using Alidropshipping in my own website, so no cost, except PayPal fee but you need to generate your own trafffic

I have been toying with the idea of doing dropshipping business since some time. I have theoretical knowledge on how to do dropshipping business through third party companies like ebay, etsy or Amazon, or open your own store with a custom domain. What I lack is the knowledge on the dropshipping suppliers. People have suggested me Aliexpress. However, I have checked Aliexpress prices and they are expensive. If you are already paying high price for the product, it will be difficult to sale the product because you also have to add your commission.

Hi aliexpress product is considered one of the cheapest that you can find but it depends largely on your niche but the only problem with aliexpress is the Long delivery they provide

Thanks for sharing your experience. I didn't know there is Alidropship. I think it's good to use system like that on our own website, then we don't need to worry too much about the change of the site, but we need to spend time building the site.

I watched a webinar about dropshipping, and the speaker mentioned to take the products from AliExpress as well. I think the products from AliExpress is less expensive, but if one can read Chinese, I think the products from its sister company are much cheaper. I just don't know whether they support dropshipping. Here in my country, many people buy things from TaoBao and resell them.

From my experience, tao bao does not support dropshipping but yes their price is cheaper and people just buy it and sell in their own country. The shipping is also quite fast, compared to aliexpress

I am also very interested in this, but i think it is very hard in my country. In america nearly everyone uses sites like EBay and Amazon. But here in my country not.
It's actually not meant to be only bound in your home country. Your problem might be easily solved when you go with it internationally I guess. And that's how I usually go when I launch an e-commerce or dropshipping store. (Although South Korea (my country) alone is a huge market in the e-commerce economy, but just to maximize the potential sales and marketplaces)

When you get to deal with international dropshippers (vendors who ship out the purchased items right to your end customers), they can actually ship items out to whole the world hassle free except to few countries like Syria or Iraq etc.

For now, Dropshipping is a very common type of earnings, but this niche is so full that it is difficult to compete with other stores, because the price is the same for everyone.

that's because many store owners work with/source goods from the narrow range of the same dropshippers. The prices dropshippers provide are regular and the sale margines are pretty limited for store owners, which causes a price standardization.
One of the keys to success in DropShipping business is where to source stuff and how to find an exclusive supplier(dropshipper) who don't do mass provision.

You are right sir. And thats a good idea in the last part you are saying. I once encountered a topic where the guy went to china just to look an exclusive product that havent been released yet. I think you need a bug capital on this. If not capital, a good verywell good tongue!

Doing business with aliexpress i think needs you to buy the plugin for your online store. And your product i think will be more expensive than in aliexpress. So aliexpress is your competitors, the advantage for aliexpress is more cheaper. Ur advantage is your niche probably and how you publicize.

Some really good laid down process here. My issue right now is finding the right niche. And also I am struggling with the delegation. That is one issue I am facing online for building business. If I want to have success with dropshipping then having some level of delegation is necessary.

Have you started yet? I am looking forward to see your status and result in yout business. Im as well interested in this and read some articles and watched on youtube. You are right its hard to create or find good niche, i think looking from what i am interested in usually be my product that might be possibly easy to create good niche.
But before all this, i want to start as affliates first and get some result to check my knowldge and move to this dropshipping since it needs more investment.

I am struggling with niche right now. As in If I want to brand my products which would be more better for me in low cash. I think that is where I am struggling. I am going to see other case studies and going to follow some similar guys who managed to put up shops in some of those niche and then emulate their approach.

Exactly. I got the same idea as you do. I'm more than sure that's a way of how to succeed in a dropshipping business with a store, very well niche pointed and widely promoted to its specific fans to the range of products you deal with.

In my opinion, reaching out to suppliers who can dropship for you in kinda partnership would be an idea to make a way in the business. So you can get only one single sample of each product in your inventory (for purposes like taking photos of to showcase in your store and gaining knowledge of the products you handle) and the dropshippers send out goods upon an order directly. It's actually a widely used way by many online retailers.

Thanks for your input anyway!! I appreciate it!!!
