The strike is legally allowed in some countries and serves as a legal means of fighting for better workers' rights: better wages and working conditions, paid overtime hours. The strikes were frequent in history and sometimes successful, while sometimes the bosses simply ignored the workers. The strike is most successful if all workers participate in it.

Have you ever gone on strike at work and what rights did you claim?

Yes that is what we did during our as well I have went on strike before but the duration wasnt up to 5 months thou I observe so many boring moment at home, despit what I pass through during the it period I still stuggle and return back to work.
That's one thing with strike , staying at home for someone that use to work is not always easy .
Were you guys able to achieve the aim of the strike or was it a wasted time ?

Government or organization don't play with the demands of the life of their system like the health sector, going on strike is the best weapon to call on the attention of employer or government in Africa.

Yea but only works for government institutions . in private institutions , by the time you return from strike , someone is already working in your position .
They don't entertain strike that much .

That's true because private companies do threating their workers with terminal of appointment especially if you have little value to their efficiency.

That's is why it is advised to work in government institutions where your opinion will be valued than private institutions that will want to exploit on you .

Lets be specific from what I read I think goverment can never replace someone position because you stay long long on strike, whenever a strike is being observed there is a specific time which all workers need to return to work.if you stay long or exceed the period which the strike suppose to be lasted then someone can ne fixed in your position.

I think different rules for different countries. Here, before a strike can be called, everyone must agree and the timeline is determined by the strikers. It could be a warning strike that lasts a day or two or the real ones that last weeks sometimes.

Yeah I still remember where we went on strike it was surprising since the school department refused to clamp down the high fees been charged on us it wasn't good

I remember when I was teaching in a school for my attachment. During that period, the teachers had not received a raise that the government had promised. I was not yet employed by the government but I joined the teachers on the strike.

I once worked with a government health institution whose staff was not satisfied with the allowances they get annually and everyone went on strike. It wasn't a good time at all since patients were barely attended to only emergencies.

going on a strike at work is okay if you have something that you want to tell your boss where he/she will normally never listen to you, provided you know what you are fighting for

Where are you working, maybe your boss is treating you better if a firm is not treating you better its likely there must be strike at your working place, strike is not always good but you need to fight for your right if the need arise.

Gone on strike at work it's legally allowed in my country as far as government refuse to listen to the workers either by increasing thier salary or paying the allowance, so the next thing is go on strike.

I work as teacher for goverment. We can't just change job since employer is everywhere same. If I go into another country I can't work as teacher since my degree is not valid. In that case why did I study for five years and invest into my self 20 000$? In same time, politicans buy new cars every year but we can't get 70$ per month bigger salary.

true, unless you are confident that you have another option for better earnings after you quit your job you're better off continuing your job

Its better to operate that if you dont have another source of income there is no need to quite your present job,you only need to secured something reasonable before making such decission time has gone and things are getting harder so ensure you get another good job before you quit the present one.

Haven't been on strike yet. But I don't think it will take long before one will be held. Everyone has been complaining for years now and with what we are asked to do now due to corona to many 'sacrifices' are made. We love our job, but not the way we are treated.

No, as far as i remember. The labor union would do a huge strike once a year on the 1st of May.
The reason is i am working on that day, doing reports and stuffs for the company so i cannot join.

taking part in demonstrations is legal and a relief, but it is very risky in our work. so, I am not at all interested in participating in these activities because it could lead to dismissal

Not me , but I have seen our college professors going on for strike to increase their salary. They have had strike for around a week and were successful too. Almost all lectures whose salary was less participated in the strike.
