as we all know, at this point in time it is essential that hospitals are fully operational and that all of their resources and their finances are focused on the patients and curbing the effect of the corona virus globally. Unfortunately a recent report by the BBC news shows that the University of California San Francisco was extorted and paid hackers 1.14 million dollars after a ransomeware attack that supposedly happened at the beginning of June.

The hackers initially demanded 3 million dollars, but settled at 1.1 million dollars via the dark web. While the university has not released a statement regarding which of the hospital data was infected, it is believed that none of their patients files were exposed. The FBI is currently still investigating this.

What do you all think about this? Hospitals are an essential service at the moment, and should not have to worry about these things as well.

Well , first of all this should sound as a warning to other hospitals to buckle up their security .
Secondly , the university should start the investigation within their staffs .

What I don't understand is that dark web transactions are they not carried through blockchain network where the blockchain team and FBI can deploy their resources to track, arrest and prosecute the hackers.

Just as the name sounds dark web , there are a lot of illegal activities that goes on there , which can't be traced . most scammers use it to carry out fraudulent transaction

Darkweb exists before Blockchain was invented. So darkweb is not running on blockchain.

crypto world should improve their security systems as soon as possible or there will be more such cases in the future.

No matter how good a security system is, hackers will still find a way to exploit it.

True , but if the security system keeps updating their system and checking their system for hackers contact , the rate of hacking will be reduced .

Those hackers are inhuman, during this time where Corona virus are ravaging the earth and they still want to steal from those hospital that are managing their funds this is very bad

I do think darkweb should be destabilize, since its invention I've never seen any useful transaction carried out on it althoigh it was created for evil perpetrators

The rate that fruadulent activities are going on the internet is too alarming.
I wish the FBI will come up with positive investigation about this

Well , I guess hackers have lost their sense of reasoning and conscience . Their greed to make money at expense of others is what is deriving them to these crimes .

Yeah its really disheartening I just hope they were caught ,so those hospitals could get their fund back since such money is not a small thing its bad

I wonder why a website will be created for evil transactions yet no action is been taken to stop such site that keep derailing people's hard earned money.

damn, why did they target an hospital ? they should have thought about the problems that they will be cause, especially in this pandemic where a lot of hospitals are truely in need of material...

I doubt if they will be easily caught considering the fact that they used cryptocurrency as their payment method , and we know the annoymosity with cryptocurrency

Well the payment options wasn't stated , but if they used crypto currency there are still ways to track them I think, just the way those Twitter scammers were caught I think

Actually it was stated , if you read the title you will definetly see where it was stated that the hackers got the transaction through bitcoin . No , this happened through dark web , it is different from twitter scam .

Dark web transaction is the most difficult place to trace transaction , this is why most people use it for fraudulent or secret deals . Even government officials do use it as well .

Well if so then it will be hard to track them ,I want the FBI to do more investigation about the issue ,that million dollar shouldn't just go like that I think

it's not the transactions that are hard to track, but hackers keep using unknown sources, the sources are untrackable, that's the main issue here, let's hope the things get better
