as we all know, at this point in time it is essential that hospitals are fully operational and that all of their resources and their finances are focused on the patients and curbing the effect of the corona virus globally. Unfortunately a recent report by the BBC news shows that the University of California San Francisco was extorted and paid hackers 1.14 million dollars after a ransomeware attack that supposedly happened at the beginning of June.
The hackers initially demanded 3 million dollars, but settled at 1.1 million dollars via the dark web. While the university has not released a statement regarding which of the hospital data was infected, it is believed that none of their patients files were exposed. The FBI is currently still investigating this.
What do you all think about this? Hospitals are an essential service at the moment, and should not have to worry about these things as well.
