It's strange to think back to GoDaddy because it was actually the first ever paid hosting service that I used. Unfortunately, my experience with it left a poor taste in my mouth and I cannot see myself ever returning to use it. But why do I not like them?
When I first went with GoDaddy, I was inexperienced with hosting so deciding to buy from GoDaddy, the largest hosting provider that advertises on TV was an easy decision to make. But I was unhappy with what I received. The site (a Wordpress installation with a premium theme and a few plugins) was extremely slow when loading and browsing. I then went ahead and spoke to the GoDaddy support team who unfortunately wasn't helpful. This was an awful experience especially when you consider their hosting plans. Their cheapest being £5.99 (£2.99 for your first year).
My only solution was to move to another host who could go provide better. I immediately noticed a massive difference in page speeds which proved my initial thoughts that the issue was with GoDaddy and not my site.
However, I do have to say that I'm pretty happy with them for my domain registration and renewals. It was extremely cheap to register my domain with them for the first year (around $0.99 I believe back then). Their renewal fees aren't competitive but aren't extortionate prices either. It's a good enough experience and service for me to keep the domain with them.
Kudos to the team for adding support for Let's Encrypt as well, which was previously not available when I was using the service. This is a great option for those that do not want to stump up an eye-watering £54.99 a year on a GoDaddy SSL certificate.
And you never have to worry about your site being inaccessible. GoDaddy is able to boast of a great record for their average uptime, it's recent lowest being an amazing 99.85% in July 2018!
