I'm looking for a company that is offering free domain names, it could be anything from .com, .net, .org, .info to .biz and anything, I just need a domain name quickly, I'll point name servers to my free web hosting for forum. Thanks!

If you just want a domain name to look short only and somewhat professional like we have domainname.extension ....then you may like some domain name providers like .ga and .tk (dot.tk)

I had few .TK addressess for a year. They usually let you get the name for a year free, you have to renew it before it expires and purchase the same if you miss renewal.

I don't think that we can get permanent free domains.

If some company will provide you free only, then how they are going to earn?
You can get cheap in comparing to different companies, but not free.

After your first year they force you to pay, not all of them're doing this.

Nobody can have permanent, you have to renew it on time to prevent it's sale to someone else. Something like Government names can be for that authority only like defense[.]gov Or Buy the domain on heavy price like Facebook, Google etc

No, domain name and hosting are different, if someone takes domain name, it will not take hosting too, unless ofcourse this is additional with it. Make your contents on free hosting only and keep them.

No, How can Go Dady sell other people's copyright material? They don't have access to them. Better use Blogger / Wordpress etc free ways, you will keep your stuff to yourself even if domain name expires.

I am using blogger now. I tried WordPress last year but I found the platform to be complicated. What can you say about simplesite?

Blogger is better because it is from Google and it works better for all adsense and it's alternative accounts. Simplesite is just ok.

I used them but not anymore, I left them years ago, last update was on 2012-13, so no idea how they are. But I will start again.

I've used free domains and keep them as forwards to my other sites. The problem is you have very little control. I use Freenom and they occasionally take back domains when they say the domain wasn't active or 'violated' of their terms and conditions. I even found one I was using up for sale because it was a popular one.

End result, I wouldn't trust them with a site that you are going to rely on. I think they are fine for forwarding or to test a site.

There are some companies which are selling permanent country TLD (ccTLD) domains . Such a domain is cheap compared to a .com domain . For a country TLD you have to pay around 50 euros (or so) only once and you get a geo-targeted domain to your country permanently. You need to search on google to see if there are websites in your language which can sell country TLD. But be careful , see if it's an official registered website so you won't go into a scam one.
However if you intend to monetize content ,country TLD are not recommended because you wont get to much visitors from another countries . That's why is it recommended to get a .com domain specially if you want to build a brand or to monetize content.

Maybe the poster misread the post. I've never seen TLD free, maybe a penny plus tax and I've seen one company offer them free once but it was a limited offer and came with a few strings (it only worked on the US site and tax was charged, plus ICANN fee). The bottom line is if it is free then you have no actual contract where you have any rights to use it. When you pay, it gives you some rights therefore if it's a domain you want to keep, then pay for it.

4 years ago is very long. I wouldn't want to abandon my site for so long. I would make someone else admin and leave. Update us after you start the new one. :)

Buying a .com is good you know. A .com is king when it comes to domain extensions especially like what you intend doing. It has advantages over other extensions too.
