❕NEWS Facebook is facing backlash due to its handling of hate speech

Just like many other social media platforms that have a huge number of users, Facebook is not without its own problems. Just recently, the social networking giant is faced with backlash from several big companies due to its handling of hate speech and misinformation posts spread by users. To address this issue some of them decided to temporary withdraw their ads from the platform. The growing list of companies that do this include several well-known brands such as the outdoor apparel brand The North Face, outdoor equipment retailer REI, freelancing platform Upwork, password manager Dashlane and several more.

This is so expected for every social media site that is growing so fast like Facebook. It is so unfortunate that those famous and big companies are withdrawing. Facebook team should be more strict about what people post in the site.

It is unfortunate really but they might be temporarily withdrawing for Facebook to correct these challenges, fake news and hate speeches are flying freely on Facebook which shouldn't be

Yeah, it is a good thing that they are withdrawing just temporarily. I hope those challenges get corrected and everything goes back to normal. Facebook is a great site, it has come with many benefits despite those challenges.

This is expected.. Facebook have no rules there user make all kind of speech..they dont ban there user for harmful speech which is bad for some organisation that advitise with them
I completely have to agree with you, Facebook has always have a light policy regarding fake news, harmful speech and rumours, this is a welcome development

This challenges will make them stronger and it a signal that lots of people are closely monitoring their activities . Facebook should be as secure as possible considering the membership base.

they are looking about that now, they are banning every account that spread hate and false news and attack others, we can help the compnay by flagging people like that

if you think flagging/ reporting people will get them banned, you're wrong, also racism exists in every platform not only facebook, it's just because it's the biggest social media platform

this was in the past, now facebook is taking everyhting seriously after the cambridge analytica thing, they even detect our country language ( not an officila language )

Well, things are looking worse for Facebook now. Additional companies that boycotted them keep increasing. Now Paypal, Verizon, Instagram, Pepsi, Adobe, Doritos and HP also withdrawn their ads from the platform. Imagine if Paypal includes Facebook in their ban list...

The owner of Instagram is facebook the same company, and also papyla won't ban facebook because they bring them so much money from advertising, facebook is still not weak

We will see in the next few days. Facebook is now scrambling all of their resources trying to contain this boycott, it's exciting to see. Oh and btw, did you know that the majority revenue Paypal has is from ebay?

ebay do plan to shift out Paypal to an obscure, Dutch-based payment processor soon. Wonder how they're gonna survive that. Oh well, Paypal is not that good anyway.

Of course PayPal is not that good but we can't deny it's still one of the best mode of payment used widely and internationally recognized

Yes. The rate at which hate speech is post on face book is quite alarming. The moderators are not doing enough in punishing anyone found guilty of posting fake news and hate speech.

Guess the moderators are just being overwhelmed at the excessive amount of hate speech found on the platform. Way too many hate on the internet these days.
