Hi,

I know that we often create eBooks as "opt-in bribes" for our mailing lists, or as bonuses to thank customers for making a purchase, but has anyone here been successful in selling their eBooks as stand-alone products? If so, I'd like to hear more about how you did it!

My main source of income is fiction ebooks. The way to do it is basically the same way authors have ever sold books. The formats and vendors have changed but people still read broadly the same kinds of material for the same reasons as they have for decades. The skill set is, for me, largely separate from my other online activities. I know how to tell a good story.

I love .epub format I think it is the best e-book format there is. I hate PDF but it is good for, documents such as pictures and designs, that will be beneficial to the person subscribing. This e-books must contain something the subscriber really wants or else, that subscriber can add you to their spam list.

You may find this really helpful. Whenever you do e-books, you'll want to provide as many options to your readers as you can. Having the availability of both .epub and pdf books will increase your chances of people being able to read them universally and buy the book if they prefer one format over the other. I found this web site a while back that lets you convert any of your .epub books to .pdf and back so that you can have both formats whenever you need them:
http://www.epubconverter.com/
http://www.epubconverter.com/

It is a free site and just ad-supported, so you can use it for personal or business use anytime.

(It'll let you convert to .MOBI, Kindle's format, and AZW too if you need them)

or you can do it yourself and make it even more better by using this pc app Calibre I love it, and it's the best in my opinion for creating ebooks.

I used to write a variety of ebooks years ago on repairing computer systems, do-it-yourself networking, and other types of electronics. Some were on robotics and other schematics, and some were general. I sold the rights to those years ago for a nice amount, so I would have to write some new ones if I got back into it again. Those were a few of the ebooks that I wrote and used to sell back between 2007 to 2013.

Glad to hear some people have successes.

I think these self-written ebooks are pretty promising. I ended up wasting a few hours online watching DIY videos on YouTube of amateur homeowners and stuff doing things around their house. For some reason I feel it's easier to trust them and take their word for things, as they're regular people choosing to share their knowledge. I suppose ebooks give off that vibe. I'm always tempted to buy them on Amazon :)

I have sold few copies of a friend of mine who has written about Adsense few years back. The Ebook was nothing just how to place the ad and where to place in order to increase ROI.
If you want to sell an Ebook, then just mention invest $10 and make hundred's of $$$

I have never sold a e-book I normally give them away and then place my affiliate links inside them. People go crazy for free offers.

I have written and published two ebooks on Amazon. When the books were published, book sales was very good, gradually it went down and now I don't even sell a single copy in a week.

I have never sold an eBook before, not to say I didn't try. I wrote a Children's story book that had good morals as a learning tool. I didn't have a professional book cover, it was a simple hand drawn picture, and it was published to LuLu. I guess it was not done as well as it should have been because it bombed and I never sold one. Perhaps I should have paid an illustrator to create some artwork for me, and someone to proofread my books. I do love writing, and creating stories has always been a favorite thing of mine to do.

Hmm... the 'not professionally done' cover probably would have hurt you less if you were in a different genre. Artwork is a huge part of children's books, in my experience. With there being so many options in that category there is truly no reason for customers to settle.

What sites have y'all published to? The only one I know of is Amazon, I've never heard of Lulu before...

The best method that has worked for me in selling ebooks is to build a list offering free ebooks in a targeted niche. After amassing a large number of subscribers in a particular niche, I then sell my eBook to them. It works well because I target a particular niche and gain their trust before trying to sell to them.

Tell me about it. I didn't know this at the time. I was hoping that the quality of the book itself would be better than worrying about the cover. I guess I was hopelessly wrong. I have never tried to sell an eBook on Amazon. I have only ventured out to try LuLu. I haven't logged into that account in so long, my ebook is retired and no longer accessible. :/ It was called "Sammy The Squirrel Goes To Preschool" and now he is no more, lol.

I published my ebooks on Amazon, thus I only sell on Amazon. Recently, I came to know that you can actually sell books on Fiverr or clickbank. I am thinking to try these avenues.

Yes my friend has actually put four of her books on Amazon for sales. Two of those book did well. She will be publishing another book again next month. I have tried to sell some of my used books on eBay and Facebook.

Its the best method to sell any stuff. And Facebook is growing very fast in that. Few days back I seen someone selling Mobile phones there and those Smart phones are not easily available here. The only thing is we need to strike the Iron continuously to make it hot and then we can achieve best.

We are rather talking about ebook sales here. Have you been successful at selling ebooks online or do you know someone who has been successful? I have some journal articles which I would like to sell too. I have not found the right website.
