My friend's job is teaching English online and her clients were from Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. It seems such job is a big demand as many people from non-English speaking countries wants to learn the language to be more competitive globally. Other freelancers do tutoring online with Math and Science subjects. Do you know such site on offering such services such as tutoring online?

Yes, it is a growing concept nowadays. There are also a lot of online computer experts who offer teaching and guidance to people to fine tune their computer skills. Such courses are really helpful especially for housewives who want to use computer to try work-at-home opportunities. As non-English speaking countries got a majority of the workforce the idea of online teaching has a huge untapped potential in future I think.

Even though I didn't use any of these online courses till now, I know many people using these platforms to brush up their language skills. Due to globalization, knowledge of English and other foreign languages gives a definite edge in the job market.

I would be able to give you a list of such sites once I speak to my friends who are already using online courses.

Last year I came across with a comment of one of my friends in Facebook. She was very glad of sharing her fruitful experience as an online English teacher to Korean teenagers and kids. I asked her if I could join too. She gave me the instruction on what to do and I complied them.

Just a matter of days, I received a call from the company from a gentleman. He interviewed online, asked a couple of questions, and so on. After our half-an-hour conversation, he told outright that I need to improve my conversational intonation. That's the only problem I got. Well, I answered back. Yes, I will. He ended our call by saying that he would make a return recall if I am already ready.

If I passed that probably, I am one of the English teacher proud to be earning a site income for that job.

Yes please update us with a list of companies who specialize in this opportunity. I would love to research this notion. I have heard of online colleges, I actually am attending one, and I love the flexibility it gives. This would be a wonderful experience for an English teacher, seems very rewarding. Do you know what the requirements are? Please share..and thank you so much.

@Sheebah7 most of this sites are tedious and you get a higher chance if you have all the right qualifications to be a teacher, I tried some of them, but I never meet their criteria and I didn't want to lie.

Oh okay..thank you for the information. I know some real positions exist as far as becoming an online professor for an online college/university. I think those jobs are interesting and a bit convenient but just like any teaching job you have to have the correct credentials in order to apply. Any online job offering a teaching job and does not set high standards for qualifications seems like a scam.

The premium pricing seems to be teaching English to wealthy foreign students. Then there is proper payment for the one-on-one attention. It's not my sort of thing but kudos to those who are cashing in.

In most other areas it is more profitable to make materials and charge for access. That way there is passive income.

Chegg has a tutoring website that seems legit. I've never tried it because I don't think I'd make a good teacher, so I'm not sure what qualifications are required. They could have lax qualifications but pay you better if you're certified to teach.

Also, I know someone who teaches an online class at an actual university, and you're correct that those jobs are very difficult to get. The qualifications are the same as they would be if you were teaching in person.

Okay, I am familiar with Chegg and all that it offers to users and students. Chegg is an informative site and I think you may have to pay a fee for the service. I figured getting a job as an online professor would be difficult, after all it is a teaching career. There is no getting around having certain credentials. The same qualifications for a campus professor is required for teaching online classes, because they are still performing the same duties just not in a traditional classroom.

I do know some people who are teaching online. My friend who is good in English but her intonation or diction is not that outstanding (not to look down on her), but she is earning well. It is not a site but a physical company. She also applied in 51Talk and passed the interview. Perhaps the site where you applied has strict rules. I knew some sites that are too strict and even requires 1 year of experience in teaching online. So it means newbies in such field cannot join.

Did I hear and read it right @ipol12? Though her voice intonation is not good and yet she's been accepted. I may say that it is unfair. Probably the one who interviewed her is not strict. Anyway, it is okay for me that I was not accepted for I am very busy especially these days for closing of classes are nearing.

I have also heard about online teaching and know that it has a good demand nowadays. I am interested in online tutoring but I do not have much details about the relevant sites and how to go ahead. My favorite topics are Maths and English. I hope I could get more details from the experienced members of this forum.

Do they require that you are a certified teacher? Or do they just look for teaching qualities?

Teaching Online is a hot business these days. Due to lots of advancements in technology, we are left behind if not using the a computer. That's why almost everyone has his own personal computer. This is the reason online teaching is in trend. People prefer to get knowledge online from instructors.

I do think that the interviewer isn't too strict. Likewise, they even prefer someone who has good personality. I also noticed in that company, that most tutors they hire were somewhat good looking girls and boys. I saw their pictures and most of them were pretty and handsome.

Online tutoring is becoming one of the lucrative jobs. Everyone seems to have knowledge on something. We can cash out on this aspect. I have been trained to write online, therefore, if I wish, I casn use my online writing knowledge and skills to earn money from tutoring.

One of my relative asked me to make a site for teaching maths to students, when I asked why you needed being a teacher in offline class?
The answer is she said to teach students overseas too. i was stunned that I never know this type of teaching even spent a lot of time on Internet.
I could be teaching Maths to students because am perfect in Maths when I was student.
It is good to make your own site and invite to the students rather than working to some other colleges or teaching sites.

Yeah. You can establish your own. My friend who is working in a company teaching English is having a part time on her own with the same work. One of her students offered her to teach on the student's relatives so they don't need to enrol in the company. You can do it as well as I think there's a company which offers tutoring in different subjects.

I thought, but presently don't have time by being an owner to a small business with 2 blogs.
It is one of easiest way to make money by teaching youngsters, and I am thinking to use a community type where paid members only get visible content per that section.
Do you know how these tutor sites make their system either CMS or any software?
