I see Dwolla transfer fees is ZERO for any payments within their network.

Limit per transaction to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 limit for businesses but this limit can be increased.

There's a membership fee, Plus $25/month, Premium $250/month and Custom from $1500/month.

What do you think about Dwolla?

If you are from US and if the limit of$5000 doesn't affect you in any way, then there is no reason to use PayPal over Dwolla. If Dwolla could expand its reach to international boundaries then it could give PayPal a run for its money. For international transactions PayPal still is the most reliable one.

I haven't used Dwolla, but the $25 a month fee isn't ideal to me since I can still send and receive to or from paypal for only a few dollars as a fee, and it's only charged if and when I send...not monthly. So unless I was using it for a high dollar transaction weekly or monthly to people who were also able to pay the monthly fee to receive it...I'm not sure why I should throw away $50 to Dwolla every month between both parties just to use it?

If I were sending or receiving every few days with it and the other side had it, then it would make sense because even the small one time fees per transaction would add up and be more than what Dwolla charges. But without that? Or to and from different sources who may not receive or send as much? I don't see the advantage in it unless the one-time transactions. Not unless it was between $1000 to $1500 or more in a single transaction to where the fee would be more than Dwolla's monthly then.

Don't they have a free service or a pay-per-use service to rival Paypal instead as an alternative to grab the market?

I do not think the 25$ fee per month is worth it. Sure, Paypal has high fees but is accepted and recognized anywhere while this is the first time I hear about Dwolla.

Not being a well known company aside, I'm also not sure about the safety of Dwolla. How does it protect me as a customer? With Paypal, you're not only getting the transfer but also some sort of guarantee that you will be able to get your money back should you buy a product or service which is not delivered in the end.

paypal is not available in many countries (Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. and in many countries paypal has limitation (for instance India where money does not stay on your account, it is immediately transferred to your bank). If Dwolla can reach into these countries where paypal does not work, it can beat paypal.

In my opinion the fee is probably a bit too high. PayPal has it's shit together pretty well so if you don't transfer money that much you won't lose it either. Also, Dwolla doesn't have it's name out there on the market yet, so safety is an issue that should be considered.

Um, it has no membership fee for ordinary private users. Not monthly and not per transaction it is totally free. So, yeah the cost thing is 100% absolutely in Dwolla's favor.

But, hardly anyone uses it, and almost everyone uses Paypal.

Pass.

Dwolla reminds me a lot of Payoneer. Both online payment systems require a membership fee but the former appears to be more expensive. I'd rather go for PayPal, however. No membership fee at all plus you can simply deposit money directly to your bank account - no need to link your Mastercard or Visa card if you don't feel like it.

Pаypаl is thе сurrеnt middlеmаn frоm hеll, сhаrging а trаnsасtiоn fее, аnd thеn а сеrtаin pеrсеntаgе frоm thе trаnsасtiоn tаkеn, оn аll sаlеs. Plus membership sounds like an upgraded version from the Basic membership, or is Plus the basic membership there? If that's the case then no thank you. PayPal has work quite well for me so far without much problem, so I see no reason to change right now.

Bаsiс funсtiоnаlity: PаyPаl is glоbаl аn suppоrts сrеdit/dеbit саrds аnd асH/bаnk trаnsfеrs. Dwоllа suppоrts bаnk trаnsfеrs оnly.

I have never heard of Dwolla before and I don't think I will be using it. I prefer PayPal over all the other payment processing sites. I do not have to worry about the security at PayPal and the staffs have always been very helpful and answered some of my queries.

Me too, I never heard of and seen Dwolla as option of payment at any online site before.
I prefer Paypal as I have not much transaction per month although the charge is a bit higher if compared to other online payment site.
Anyway, I forgot to tell, I have received twice appreciation tokens from Paypal at USD10 each after my problem resolved, so kind of the Customer Service officers of Paypal local branch and so lucky of me!;)

This is my first time hearing about this online payment system, and by reading all the comments in this thread, I would definitely keep away from Dwola. A $25 membership fee for regular account is way to high, that's like stealing my hard earned money right in front of me.

You are so lucky to have received those tokens. I previously had a problem with PayPal too and they resolved the issue quite quickly. The customer service is very good I would say.

It happened last year for twice, really surprise me. It could be the branch here has some budget which they urged me to try to do some online purchase at Paypal, but I didn't try at all. The money sleep in my bank, hehe!;)

Same goes for me as well. I trust PayPal and even if Dwolla don't deduct any fee, I still go with PayPal as its working fine for me and for all others around the world. I am pretty sure that PayPal is one of the best if not the best ways to receive money from worldwide.

Maybe they really were expecting you to do some kind of purchase. Theod thing is that you got those 20 dollars for free.

PayPal is not available in many countries and it is also has limitations but very reliable. If Dwolla which is new company can reduce it membership fee and has no limitations. Within a short period it awareness will go international and may take over PayPal with time. Lots of people are frustrated with PayPal limitations.
