I have an old desktop and want to use it for mining cryptocurrency.

But I'm concerned if CPU mining would consume a lot of electricity?
Yes it does, your desktop needs to be on and online for most times to be able to mine. Old desktops consume more power. It's insignificant if you have cheap and steady power supply as it power consumption is Less than a refrigerator.

Many of my friends, have asked me this question.

During this Pandemic crisis, whatever few dollars you can earn here and there would be of great help.

With FREE CPU mining that would be more easier but then the power consumption is a problem.

I will pass this message to my friends, let them decide. Thank you. ?

No problem. It won't affect them if they access cheap and steady power supply in their location. Just that the cpu needs to be connected to power and internet 24 7.

not as much as GPU's do, but still, and since you said it's an old Desktop, i believe it draws more power, since modern cpu's are focusing on efficiency and less power consumption, yours must surely consume atleast 95 Watts in full load, what cpu is that btw ?

yes. it consumes more electricity than normal uses but not as much as GPU mining or ASIC mining
If you country's electricity bill rate is low then you can mine from home without any extrabills
Its just so unfortunate that most countries electricity cost is just too high and obviously more people find mining not attractive due to the high cost

majority of the miners use GPU's to mine instead of CPU's, GPU's consume more power than CPU's but miners undervolt them to reduce both power consumption and temperatures

yeah but the system is updating. machines are creating for more efficient mining
bitmain or other mining company trying to make more electricity saving machine s
I was thinking if they could start generating power from solar energy as this would save them electricity cost and also the power used for mining and even funds also

good question bro. most of the miner is now thinking about it and some miner who lived in the desert area they started to make solar mining. actually, mining hardware needs more power than normal hardware, to generate them solar machines need to be expensive
Yeah its expensive but using solar energy to generate power is obviously the best means ,because its a one time fee to buy it but you keep paying for electricity

it will take same equal money that you need to buy mining hardware
the setup of solar is too expensive. you can watch review about it
very few peoples can do that kind of setup
Yeah i know they cost thousands of dollar and there is denomination and sizes you can buy , so solar is expensive but it would really help you to mine till infinity after buying it , but electricity cost would be payable in a weekly or daily basis

you gotta do your calculations, for example, calculate the electricity costs for a certain period and compare it for how much a solar setup would cost you, then you can know which solution is better, even though, you pay for a solar setup once in life.

No CPUS hardly use any power. If your computer is already on it makes almost no differnce. Most CPU work between 65w-95w on full load.

I've worked it out. Where I live it will take you 7-10 years to pay back for the solar panel. But remember during that time you nt buying electricity. It actually works out to almost the same price. 7-10 years is 84-120 months and if you work out what you paying monthly and x it by 84-120 you will find its almost the same.

But why would you pay again in 7 years time after buying the electricity , and i think solar panel would be the best option for people that lack electricity supply

That's what I just said xD

Not only does it consume a lot of energy, but it will also reduce the useful life of your equipment, I would not recommend making friends.

That's not true at all. If you have sufficient cooling you can run your CPU or GPU at full throttle for years and years.

Yes it does and that's because the design of Bitcoin mixed with human greed.
The difficulty of mining scales with the number of processors trying to mine such that the same number of coins comes out every 10 minutes.
This means that whether there are 10 people or 100 million people mining, there will only ever be X amount of new coins coming out every 10 minutes (roughly

Yes, CPU mining do consumes battery life. Some mining platforms uses high voltage engine to mine coins via your smart phone. In order to curtail the excessive usage of battery life, is by having constant electricity supply. If you have steady light supply I don't think your smart phone can drain down when mining coins for you.
