Godaddy used to offer free privacy protection in past. But these days they are charging 5$ additional for the privacy. And it can be pretty irritating to make use of that service. Considering that they are having upsells around everything. Like paying for privacy, paying for DNS etc. And the worst part is that if you don't enable the privacy protection, there are going to be spammers who send the emails every now and then when you update or renew registration of domains.

So do you use privacy protection with domain? Or your personal data is easily accessible with domain?

I've registered all my domains with Namecheap, I used WHOIS privacy protection when it was a paid addon ($2 a year I think) and I use it now when it is free to all Namecheap customers simply because I don't want to expose my residental address, I don't care that much about my full name or e-mail address.

So do you use privacy protection with domain?
Yes we use it, basically it makes spam disappear, before that I had so many spam emails, now very few close to none every single day, totally worth it.

Yes. I am getting a lot of spam from the various type of people. Some sending me email on how my SEO is not done. Some saying web design needs change. Most of those people sending emails such as that, have poor websites themselves. I have to shell out some money I guess for all my domains privacy.

I didn't buy privacy protection service on my domain. So far, there is nothing bad happened. Apart from stopping spam, is there any other benefit from that?
It protects our privacy. And also our data is not being stolen. That seems to be the only benefit that I have noticed. I have not seen any other benefit than that. Which is your domain registrar by the way?

it seems that now it is free since the new data protection law in europe.
essential to prevent spam
Unfortunately I am not in EU. So I may have to find other registrar which can offer the free privacy protection. I have noticed godaddy seems to be charging for this type of the service. Plus the additional VAT or the GST in the invoice makes it not want to make use of the service there as well.

Yes, it does not only reduce the number of scam emails, but it also prevents domain hijacking.

If your contact information is exposed, an attacker can use it to gain access to your account and transfer your domain to another registrar. Perhaps nothing you have to worry about, but it has happened a few times in the past where an attacker would use the information to reset the domain registrant's password.

I am being bombarded in the email every time I renew it. But the amount for the privacy protection on godaddy is a bit high. In case of namecheap they offer it for free on some domains. And some old users got it for free too. Something that godaddy would not bother much about the feature wise.

Your confidential data can be further safeguarded by privacy protection services, which also lowers the possibility of spam and unwelcome inquiries. Although it is something to take into account when registering a domain, the choice of whether to use it eventually relies on your individual requirements and worries.

Without privacy protection, your personal information, such as your name, address, and email address, is publicly available through the WHOIS database. This can make you a target for spam and phishing attacks.
