i had to say this is my first programming language and i dint have any idea then what is it.

Clipper is an xBase compiler, which is a computer programming language, that is used to create software programs that originally operated primarily under MS-DOS. Although it is a powerful general-purpose programming language, it was primarily used to create database/business programs.

I've been a developer for many years this is the first time I've heard about it, as I have been trapped in a bubble so I don't cause any trouble. sounds very interesting to be run under ms-dos makes me think of a few other command line based languages. what exact syntax did it use?

It was in the middle of the 80s, when I earned my first money by developing software. I took over a project a friend of mine started. He used dBase III and later on I migrated it to Clipper. Clipper added new features to the dBase language and you could add code written in C.
But Clipper failed in moving on from MS-DOS to Windows. When they started to offer a Windows compatible version, it was already too late. Other products had already occupied their place.
As a database system it was missing transaction handling. You also had to compress your data files from time to time, because deleted records werde only marked as deleted. The space could not be reused again.

It is very similar to PHP / C and had the ability to create anonymous functions (called code-blocks) which could be created at runtime that allowed you to create data driven apps (you could store code in a table and compile/execute it at runtime). You could also write functions in C code that would be linked into your app.

I created a spreadsheet based app that allowed you to create formulas to calculate and consolidate financial data. You could change a formula and instantly see the result. I also bypassed it's poor database (ISAM based and SQL but there where 3rd party SQL libraries) and wrote directly to my own binary file (it had low level file access). Even on a 386 it would consolidate 300 variables sent in by 100 remote locals in 20 or so seconds.

It's a pity that they dropped the ball when they introduced a Windows version that would crash when compiling the demo.
