Just reading on the INTERNET few days ago and because now I'm here I'd like to ask you guys, what your opinion about this... I read that with one phone call all my info can be revealed... And scammers, spammers take advantage of this. Pretty said isn't? :(

So the question is: Private Domain Registration worth paying or not?

I heard that too and even worse... Our whois is sold for $10... I know... sound BS... well this is the truth. Also most providers will drop your privacy to government / law enforcement or any kind of real justification... sad...sad... :( You pay for something you don't get... and that's full domain privacy.

I also heard there's a company who act as a middleman to any inquires... works like this... if someone want to know who owns a certain domain the domain provider will send a notice to owner and owner can decide what to do... provider do nothing... not even government can force them... the downside is the high cost involved for this privacy, anyway... may worth every single dollar if you do some shady business.

Every domain once bought is listed in the WHOIS database.

If you don't get private domain registration you will face the following problems:

+ your private information you used when you registered the domain name is public (your full name, address and phone number)
+ prepare for unwanted solicitations (marketers, scammers will take advantage of your email and other info to sell you stuff)
+ domain hijacking (if you have a premium domain people will try to get it from you in a way or another)

Considering amount of spam and the sales pitch that you may get, it'd be fair to consider the private domain registration as an option. Some domains like .li and in are private. You can see that some of the domains are good to protect in that case. I buy domain protection service from the godaddy everytime I register domain.

Hi, there are so registrars that offer free whois protection or privacy, one good example is namesilo. If you buy a domain with them (namesilo), they offer you a chance of activating your whois privacy which is completely free of charge. When you do this, all your contact informations are hidden except the name you used when registering with them. So automatically, no spammers.

OK, I guess this means its better to get a private domain name, hmm good to know as I was opting for the public one because its definitely cheaper
