I think they removed ads delibrately. This is one of the biggest sites which use adsense and has been online for quite a while with almost 35000 payments, you can expect them to learn how to deal with adsense a little. Also, they issued an announcement that they have increased worldwide deal from 2.5 to 3. They probably are waiting for their payment from adsense and will then resume again with ads
