So from what I can tell, this isn't the first time this type of mining is discussed here. Everyone on this site is trying to generate income somehow online or on our electronics, but I haven't seen anyone talk about this particular extension YET (probably cause I barely joined) so here it is some basic information I know about it form using it so far.
I recently found a very much working chrome extension that lets you mine in the background all for free and you can actually get it

It has 16k users WITH 4.5 stars in the Chrome Store. Unlike other mining chrome extensions I looked up, this one has the most amount of users. It's easy to use and also easy to understand as well.
It's also not a scam. With the internet at our finger tips, we have the ability to look up what is and what isn't a scam especially if 16k people use it!
The more people you invite, the faster you will generate bitcoin in the background especially if they are active. This means that if you invite enough people,
you WILL eventually be able to earn up to potentially 1 bitcoin monthly. That is about $7137.5 USD a month.
This extension does not have a lot of options, but it does show you how much bitcoin you've mined and the amount being earned through H/s.
You can also control the amount being mined so it does not slow down your browsing.
So far from what I've tested, I've had the extension for about 3 hours and 20 minutes. With 2 people invited to use the extension.
I'm generating about 10-14 H/s with mining on MAX. Not a lot, but it is still something!
When I first downloaded the extension the MAX was probably around 5-6 H/s. Yes it is a very small amount, but the more users you invite and the longer you have the extension running, the MORE you will earn as it mines passively.
So if you have relatives that are interested in bitcoin mining or friends but they do not want to use a lot of power or pay money and all that junk, just let them know an easy way IS POSSIBLE. They just need Google Chrome and the extension. You can use your own invite link so it benefits you!
Although it may be slow or not that effective, at least there is something in the background that actually could generate you a bit of income even if it's just a tiny bit, you should be proud you put in the effort to at least do something. Every successful mind will jump into something that they think will give them advantage without having to think, because they learn from experience and they do not give up, that is why they are successful.
Be patient as the the amount will add up overtime so giving up just because it takes time and progress will just leave you out of one less alternative to making some amount whether small or large.
