There are lots of way to make money online, and two of the most popular ones are surely content mills (get payed to write stuff, like articles or reviews) and survey sites (get payed to answer to surveys).
Which of the two was the most profitable for you? Which one has the best time spent/money gained ratio, and which has the most potential?

Right now neither is likely to pay much and I would suggest that anyone starting out look into other options.

Historically it was content sites, I made thousands that way over the last 5 years. But the CPM and traffic has crashed even for the sites that are still a going concern.

I have never found a survey site that was worth the time of day. The only one I still check in "On the Go" as they occasionally offer special surveys that pay $10-25, and those are a reasonable investment of effort.

It's hard for many people to make money consistently for surveys so they definitely aren't a great choice for someone who wants to earn their living online. For someone who wants a little extra cash they aren't bad. So content mills thought they won't make someone certainly are somewhat better than survey sites.

The best site to get writing jobs is Scripted. They pay at least $24.50 for a 400 word article. People who are really good at writing will earn at least 3 times more money than any writer who works for a content mill.

Having been a member of a few survey sites a number of years ago, while I did manage to make a bit of money even back then it was hard work, so I wouldn't even like to imagine what it's like on those now.

As for the content mills then I do think there is money to be made on there, but again with the amount of people looking for online work these days, the competition is going to be fierce I would imagine.

I would say that both sites aren't that lucrative right now. For instance, content mills pay very little for a lot of work. I find myself writing for three hours for a $2.43 article. And you're not even sure if the article is going to be accepted. Plus, if you're a newbie in content mill sites, there's not a lot of work available as compared to experienced or older members. So I'd say that if you are just new into writing, there's more money to be made in blogging or writing for online publications. But if you do need the experience, then content mills are great for that.

When it comes to survey sites, you win some, you lose some. Some days there is surveys, some days there isn't. Scratch that, most days there isn't any surveys at all, especially if you're from an Asian country like mine. The best advice I can give you is to be a member of a lot of survey sites and try to check in once a day or more to see if they have available surveys for you.

Comparing the two, writing for content mills give you more earning possibility if you have decent writing skills. Jobs aren't always available but they mostly have at least 10 jobs there in iWriter. Once your article is accepted, then you get the money immediately in your account.

I prefer content mills because there aren't really many surveys available outside the US, UK, etc, at least in my experience. With content mills you always have something to write if the website is available in your country; it can be only a few, like @missiemouse already mentioned, but it's somethings. I'm in some surveys site and there's basically nothing to do for me. If you live outside the US then it's better to write that do surveys, in my opinion.

I like both personally. I write quite a lot because I simply enjoy writing. So for me, writing for content mills and getting paid to do so is great. I'll happily sit and write on those for hours because I'd rather get something for writing than nothing.

However I find that if you're on the right survey sites you can make a decent amount of money. £90 (about $130) for less than 10 hours work over the course of a month I don't think is bad at all, and I'm able to earn this on just one survey site.

I have written for many content mills, for example, Helium, Squidoo, Hubpages etc. I still written on Hubpages. The first money I made online was from content mills. However, I have not tried survey sites much. In fact, I tried to do surveys couple of times only to discover that the surveys were not available in my location.

I think both have failed because of different reasons. Survey sites ( IMHO ) have just gotten better at cheating their users. Either they pay a tiny amount or they ´disqualify ´ you after you have already answered many questions, so they got the data they wanted, and do not have to pay you.

Content forms just got killed by Google Panda update. Nearly overnight the traffic those sites got from search traffic dried up, so either they stopped paying you a fixed amount and forced you into a share, or else they lowered the amount they shared. Most of them went under.

I would like to try content mills and one recommendation was Blogjob. However, I am not that comfortable in writing articles since I am not really a writer and definitely not a good one. My capacity for now is forum postings only because it is short. But I also have some written articles particularly about my dogs so maybe it can get me some readers in a content mill. However with Blogjob, they said that there is a screening process.. that's what gives me hesitation

Surveys are the easiest way but content mills are the most profitable between these two from what I've seen so far. The problem for surveys is always the qualification process. I've got quite a handful of them every week but I only qualified for some of them, most of the time I just got screened out early from the survey. If you're lucky then you could probably gain a decent profit from them.

Surveys are somewhat of a waste of your time to be honest. You spend 20 minutes answering questions only to be disqualified for no reason any time the survery provider wants to or doesn't get the exact answer they need to make magic happen on paper and statistics for whomever they're getting ready to present your information to. That, or they just simply deny a certain percentage of people no matter how useful or legitimate their answers are just to keep their percentages of payouts low and hope that the users won't ever know how dishonest the survey providers were. At least with content mills you have less of a chance of that happening.

It may take you the same amount of time to write something for a company and they may act the same way and either accept or reject based on a whim, but unlike a survey you can reuse portions of what you've written if the acceptance didn't occur as planned for the original article to quickly release something with the majority of the flow and content for another. That modular ability to reuse content and quicken the release of a paid article just isn't possible for one to apply when it comes to surveys since they are always different, and always take a set amount of time without any way to skip around parts that could be filled out more quickly.

Some surveys used to be able to use an auto-form fill, but not even that will make the time and the low pay worth it to you in the end unless you live in a country where the exchange rate can justify it from one currency to another.

The best positions of course are the ones that have a guaranteed status to where you just need to write specific content as a trusted provider on a schedule as a ghost-writer. Not always is that available, and despite being more lucrative for you and surefire for the provider, there are times that you may want to do both.

I don't see any reason not to bolster your writing with content mills between ghost-writing or larger and prestigious paid articles. I do see reasons not to do surveys or survey sites a-plenty.

It only content mill that have been working for me,surveys are no go area for me.Even sites that accept me to signup would disqualify me immediately I have completed a survey,it can be very annoying. So it content mill for me now.

I am not much blessed when it comes to survey websites as most of the times my Demographic details are not any helpful but i am happy with the writing websites and did well on mylot earlier and now i am on here, FC and on FFU and enjoying my time on pay to post forums.

I'd also suggest content mills. I like them because the develop your writing skills. This is good for your future freelance career. Once you write quality material you attract high paying clients.

I think you are right as well. Can you suggest me some good websites like that so i can start doing it from today on wards. Also can you share on which websites you are and how much can we earn from those blogging websites?

I don't have much option for the survey sites. I have found that those are going to be closing pretty immediately. I think survey sites like that sort of thing. So you can see that content mills have their share of the benefits. And they can add up some real money too. So if you are trying to build some serious money then content mills or blog of your own definitely helps. That's what I have learned while working on them.

I heard a lot about Blog Job from past few days but don't know what this website was all about and how can we earn from them. I will certainly choose a content mill website and never a survey one as my demographic details aren't any helpful to let me participate in surveys.
