CEO of Coinbase Brian Armstrong is reported to have been allegedly selling their analytics data to the US Secret Service. This came as a surprise to many Coinbase users and they expressed their criticism on Twitter, saying its a direct threat to their privacy. I mean it feels kind of awkward to know that Secret Service agents might look into your transaction history. However, Brian repeatedly said that privacy will always be protected no matter what

I just hope this allegations are not true because this will seriously affect coinbase market, let me assume it a cook up story by their competitors to kill coinbase market.

I think this will cause Coinbase to lose a lot of their customers , as no customer will like the fact that his privacy is somehow invaded .
This is puts question on other wallet , as to whether they are into the same act .

In fact am so shocked just after hearing this message. Coinbase is like one of the most secured and customer protected company. I hope it ain't true....
well, you shouldn't really be shocked because it's internet, your data is never safe, so you really have to expect that as an internet user

You are Right @dadayli , even coinbase it self is not completely secure let alone data though it won't be a good thing if truly they sold out data to secret service of the US.

as long as the data is in an agency, then i believe it's safe since no1 of them is going to play with your account's data or anything like that

May be they didn't even buy the data , they only requested for it in the name security measure or monitoring which is not bad if they secure the data as collected

I think that if they actually intend to give those data out for security reason , they owe to any Coinbase user the responsibility of informing them about the development. At least it help the users to be more careful

that might be possible since coinbase is responsable of a lot of daily transactions and that data can be used for some calculations or studies

If this is true, it simply implies that the US secret service will stop at nothing to fight cyber crimes. Coinbase should however not destroy their reputation as they are sure going to lose customer base in trying to help.

I agree with you on that but the fact still remain that they owe it to the users , to inform them of the new development in terns of their privacy . I hope people don't sue them for violating privacy

Kind of true, since they got nobody's permission to sell it, well, if it's for security reasons, i believe people would allow it with pleasure but they still need permissions

Sad development there, thus us what makes a lot of us people to be sceptical and not trust online activities.

There's a law I remember reading somewhere that force all companies that registered in US to share their customer's data with some of the government's intelligence agencies, so nothing surprising here.

Nowadays there is nothing for free,if someone has to use your information they must get a concert from you and must pay for it

Nah, it never works that way. Let's say that your government asks for your personal data when you're applying for national ID card or driver license, do you ask for your government to pay you?

You see the logic in the example you have given, you have clearly indicated "the government asks" and you are solely aware the reason they are asking that information for which is for card or driver license issuance. That means there is consent. Most data that people sell to third party is to I fluence a promotion of an agenda or product and mostly in order for people or governments to benefit.FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU READ AN ARTICLE ON OPERA NEWS OR SURF ON FACEBOOK.Try to close and open the pages again you will notice there are tones of pages related on the previous viewed items, this in turn will make you spend more time viewing related topics and in the end THEY ARE GENERATING TRAFFIC OF SOME SORT.As for the part of paying for it,its not that people are being money hungry but the vital info that benefits people must be measured to some value and you must benefit as a country or indivual.E.g based of the info they get from you,you get an addition of a percentage to your health issuarance.

Good luck with that since virtually all intelligence agencies in all countries are love covertly collecting people's data for free. It's not like this is the first time governments are ripping people off anyway LOL.

Hmm. If this law is actually true then it is an intimidation on the part of the companies .
It is true that these measures are for security , however what is worth doing , is worth doing well .
My question is thus , since it not only US citizens that uses Coinbase , will the secret service prosecute any user outside US that was found involved in illegal transaction ?

well as most large companies are selling some of their user's data in the back I wouldn't be surprise if coinbase does it too
