There's so many people offering blog commenting services which are usually done with automated softwares, a big no no if you do white hat seo for your site.

I wonder if blog comments are good or bad for SEO these days?

If you do blog commenting the genuine way, means you go and manually add a comment with a backlink to your site is good for SEO.
If you use GSA SER or other backlink generator tools I'm afraid is not good for SEO and Google will penalize your site pretty soon.

Aren't all links in most blog comment sections unfollowed?

Unfollowed links may help get brand awareness, but they are useless for SEO.

And any blog that doesn't put nofollow for all links is likely to be flooded with spam, and ignored by search engines anyway.

One thing I know it works for sure in SEO and that is called guest blogging.

Never buy Automated blog commenting services as it is totally harmful to your site and get penalized easily. Try genuine method on genuine blogs, go viral for a long term as it will brings a tons of traffic and rank in serp.

Blog commenting will generate traffic as well as backlink to your contents/websites. However, it is not directly related to SEO. You should focus more on on page seo, rather than off page seo. The first priority for search engine to rank a website is content quality, therefore, you must focus on quality content

I think blog commenting still has its place for SEO though not in ways we have previously known. For instance, whereas Google doesn't use blog comments for ranking purposes anymore, we still cannot forget the fact that there are still other search engines out there. So just for that, blog commenting might be helpful for other search engines.

Another good thing about blog commenting is that you get to communicate with other bloggers. And that's probably not SEO in itself but it can certainly open the gates for guest posting, shares or other traffic-boosting methods.

As far as automated blog comments go, I'm not much for it. I would rather have comments that are genuinely made instead of computer-generated ones.

Comments posted by spamming software such as Xrumer will be worthless and if they are posted on smaller and medium-sized blogs where blog posts never get too many comments odds are even though the comment may not be flagged as spam by an anti-spam plugin, the blog owner will notice that your comment is of no value and will delete it. Sites where your comment will go unnoticed are probably the sort of sites you don't want to get a backlink from anyway. Money you'd have spent on this "seo-service" will have been wasted.

Treat your blog as you would your business. Would you want to take risks that would make your business fail? If you don't want your blog de-indexed say no to link building done using any software.

I think it's a gigantic waste of time. I addition, I feel the same way about posting links on forum signatures and profiles. Well, for one thing, it annoys the owners cause there are so many posters who don't care for the blog or forum's topic but only want a backlink. Second, the effect could be negative, and even if it's positive, it's probably such a low effect that it's not worth the time.

Mаking соmmеnts оn blоgs gаvе mе bеttеr Dоmаin аuthоrity (sоmе оf thе соmmеnts wеrе fоllоw but I dоn't think thаt is thе оnly rеаsоn).
Bоught сitаtiоns оn high Dа "Niсhе" rеlеvаnt sitеs оnly hеlpеd tеmpоrаrily but nоt thаt muсh
I built rеlаtiоnships thаt аrе аlrеаdy hеlping my wеbsitе

Mаybе. If sо, littlе. Mаtt сutts оf Gооglе hаs rесоmmеndеd blоg оwnеrs аutоmаtiсаlly аdd nо-fоllоw tо links writtеn in соmmеnts. This wаsn't tо disсоurаgе соmmеnting itsеlf, but tо disсоurаgе соmmеnting purеly fоr thе sаkе оf link building. Hоwеvеr, if yоu hаvе links in соmmеnts, thаt's nоt а bаd thing, if it's first mоst in thе intеrеst оf hеlping pеоplе. If yоu'rе intо link building, building divеrsifiеd links is а gооd thing. This is definitely one area that I can stand to improve in, but even after all these years I have made about as little progress as is imaginable. I guess there are some things that are just better left to others.

Like others have said already, I think comments on blogs can help SEO, but only as long as they are done the proper way, and you're not paying for a automatic, computer generated response. There are a lot of so called blog commenting services that will go down that road, and all it does is earn them money but gets your blog a bad reputation because they are easy to spot.

If you can find a genuine worker that will comment (and maybe even write on your blog) the natural way then it can help a site, and there are still a few people about who will do that, but if you aren't willing to pay the going rate and are thinking about bulk buying comments on the cheap, I certainly wouldn't take the risk.

I've had it up to here with commercial spammers on blogs and forums. If the people aren't there to discuss the main topic, but rather to post a signature, comment, or profile link, then they need to be banished. Anyhow, those methods of gaining backlinks are dumb anyhow. High ranking websites don't use them, not even for Bing - an engine that is easier to rank on.

Commenting on blogs used to be a mutual deal, and I would comment on yours if you comment on mine, that kind of thing but recently it seems that people are only after promoting their own site rather than doing their part in promoting yours as well, that's what I've noticed anyway.

For a blog to succeed and get exposure then it does need promotion and that can come from comments posted, but the comments have to be genuine and at least look natural. What I've seen recently are two or three word comments that you can hardly see, attached to a massive flashing banner advertising their own site or blog so all they are doing is using your platform to promote their own, but without giving you any kind of exposure.

Links from comments are poor at getting exposure. Nonetheless, ones on actual pages can possibly draw in a lot of people - assuming it's a high traffic blog. However, I could be wrong. Anyhow, my reasoning is that people are paying for blog posts, not comments.

Oh, by the way, a lot of spammy comments are bots anyhow - but they can sometimes be flushed out with captchas.

In past blog commenting was lot easier. And people used to drop links in it. Now a days spam is very serious issues. And so the blog comments often don't render the links. So it makes things a bit difficult for most of us when linking to the site and blogs. So what can be done in such context is that you can consider making use of the forums and email blogger for the guest posting instead.

I don't think so. If those are real interacting with admin, that will great. Otherwise, those are illustration of site for visitor which want to show site reputation.

I think it does, it shows that you receive good quality traffic, which means that your bounce rate should be smaller it should bring your website up in the search

They are good for diluting and diversifying your backlink profile. Just make sure they are only manual, engage in a conversation and are niche relevant. For actually ranking they aren't that great. But its still a link worth having!
