Adding advertising to a website is important to generate money. However, there's a correct way and a wrong way to add advertising to a website. You can actually do your site harm if you choose the wrong type of advertising for your site. There have been plenty of studies conducted that have asked people what type of advertising they prefer and what they hate and don't want to see. There are a few advertising techniques that turn a person off and will make them leave your site immediately and never go back to visit again. If you want to avoid losing your visitors it is important to know what type of advertising you should place on your site and what type you should avoid

What Type Of Advertising Should You Avoid?
  • Pop-up ads in front of the window
  • Ads that load slowly
  • Ads that deceive you to make you click on them
  • Ads that don't have a way to close them
  • Ads that move the content on the page around
  • Ads that take up most of the pages
  • Ads that blink on and off
  • Ads that float around the screen.
  • Ads that play sound
Pop-up ads and ads that automatically play audio were the top complaints from people. Nobody hates more an ad that starts to play music when they are trying to read the content on the page. Furthermore, an ad that pops up on the page when they have been on the page and started to read the content. These ads are distracting and normally will block out the page so the ad is all the person can see.

Worst Pop-Up Ads:
  • Pop up ads that advertise singles websites.
  • Pop up ads that advertise how a person can grow their penis.
  • Pop up ads to find single women or men online.
  • Pop up ads that have unsavory content.
People are sick of pop-up ads and now have installed ad blockers on their computers. They feel that these types of ads should be banned and not allowed on websites. Not only do people hate pop-up ads and what is displayed on their screen, but they are also starting to dislike the website that allows these types of ads on their site. This is bad for a website owner and will destroy their rankings and credibility online.

I Completely agree with you, people who care only about profit do that and they end earning pennies while annoying people in search of a solution to their problem and end with more problems .

All of what you said here is true. Those annoying ads are the reason people never visit those sites again. With some of them, you have to completely shut everything down to get things functioning again. I don't know what anyone hopes to achieve by treating their viewers that way. It is the reason many are forced to go the ad blocker route. If only they would behave in a more respectful and less intrusive manner.

I recently signed up for one ad network that auto plays sound or video. And that can be seriously annoying. I am sure there is a reason why the Google chrome and Firefox have decided to cut off the default play or default video option to disabled. I know some old browsers may still run but I find those ads annoying to be honest.

yeah toatlly agree,as a example if i checked some blogs then its comes some popups ad, etc then it's annoying for reading then I will not wait to read the source on those site , go away from it asap:D

Thanks for the information. I'm planning to build a website and have a few ads and/or affiliate marketing in it so definitely good input for me because i'm annoyed too with those ads you've mentioned above and i did use ads block so many times.

Thank you for sharing - this is very useful and shows me I'm on the right track with my site. I especially HATE ads that you can't click away from, that jump around or flash, or the ones that are placed in such a matter that you find yourself clicking by mistake and redirect the reader away from the site. I much prefer stationary ones that the reader can choose to click or ignore, ones that don't obstruct any of the articles.

You have given a detailed information on ads to avoid especially ads that takes up pages and one that makes a site loads slowly. I dislike visiting a site with such ads on it. It is pertinent to refrain from it

So many people think they're making money, but these types of ads usually will simply make users leave the site.

Fortunately, these ads seem to be decreasing gradually.

A lot of websites which violates at least one or more of the don'ts listed above are not interested in retaining visitors, that one time visit they hit you with all the ads in their monetization arsenal and are mostly satisfied to have earned even as little as $0.01 from your visit

Agree I found onclickads propeller commonly worst because they are invisible and open a loop of pages that are harmful and with possible chances of virus getting into your device and damaging it as well

Pop ads network has been the complain of many people. I like the concept of pop ads for it is sure that Evey page load will count. But this is not good for the visitors. As it chase them away

I hate pop-up ads so much that the minute I see one on a site, I click off and leave straight away. They grate on my nerves so much that once I've left, that's it, I never return to that sites. They are just HORRIBLE and those are the ones that are usually smarmy.

I completely agree with the listed ads that should be avoid. The one I hate most is the ad that leaves you with no option to close it. Ones personal experience with this types of ads is a great way to learn how others will feel if we put up such to promote our products or services.

Oh gosh, I hate those as well! And then when you try to click off it and it simply WILL NOT go away, as if the harder it becomes for you to get rid of it, the more chance you'll change your mind and look at the ad:oops::rolleyes: If I can't get away from that ad, I'm out of there?
