Autodesk Maya is a 3D modeler program that was first launched in 1998 by Alias|Wavefront [now known as Alias Systems Corporation]. The initial program was created based on the codebase of several other 3D programs such as PowerAnimator by Alias Research, Inc. The film Dinosaur made by Disney, greatly contributed to the development of Maya. At that time, Disney requested so that Maya's user interface could be customized to establish a more efficient and personalized workflow. The movie also made Maya popular among filmmakers. In 2005, Maya was bought by Autodesk, that became its owner and maintainer until this day. Maya is mostly used for creating 3D assets for movie, TV show, games and animations.
