After using intel cpu's for the past 15 years, Apple decided to stop using intel cpu's on its phones and to start making its own ARM based cpu's, It will also start making Desktop CPU's under the name of Silicon that's based on the RISC Archeticture that sends instructions on only one cycle instead of multiple cycles like intel cpus do, which means more power efficiency.
Apple decided to keep producing its current macbooks with Intel cpus for the next 2 years before installing its own cpus officialy in them after that.

Apple does its thing for a reason. Maybe it wanted to sell the new macbooks with new marketing strategy bringing their own chips after having no feature left to remove in the name of security. Not exactly hate but besides the iphone, mac its been littering these days for money

Heard there are many problems with Intel-based CPUs nowadays that's why Apple decided to make their own CPUs instead of relying on Intel.

It a business strategy that is working for them big time while they were using Intel CPU their team was making research on how they can build their and now they are set to build their at less cost for the company.

due to the hard competition that it's doing with AMD, it tries its best to deliver the best possible for the cheapest possible, but they are doing it the wrong way, they also delayed their 7nm based CPU's to 2022

well, it's also good for them to save money instead of paying someone else to make cpu's for them, they previously used to pay both IBM and Intel for the cpu's, but not anymore

it's a money and improvement matter, they save money and also will improve performance too, as i stated, it will use the RISC archeticture instead of intel's one

That is it, no customer last forever in a business, so IBM and Intel will sort for another big client like apple to supply it products.

Whew, I heard Intel has just sacked one of their chief engineer, Murthy Renduchintala, and their stock keeps falling. Hope they can bounce back from this.

yep, that's not good to hear, if they don't take the right decisions, they will collapse which nobody wants, i hope they get their things straight and come back

If their processors are like their own smartphones, It can generate them a lot of sold items in the future. If they optimize hardware they will be the top in the laptop categories.

I am very optimistic their processor will do wonder cos they would have studied other processors to check out their challenges though if they will be selling out their products it may be expensive.

I think this is a good move from Apple . it will not only reduce cost of production for them , but will also ensure an increase in quality seems the whole procedures will now be coming from them .

It isn't a good news really because they ought to have been in the CPU market for a very long time. Though the competition is gonna be strict and it leaves consumers with better options to decide.
Everything requires good planning and launching at the appropriate time. Apple is gonna step up the game when they eventually get into the market.

This is a cheering news. Although some people complain about apple' s products, but this will give them another opportunity to prove themselves. I only hope the desktop CPUs will be affordable.
Oh well, people that complaign are usually people that disagree about the overpriced apple products, but no one is pushing you to buy something you don't like

I believe that there will be no competition at all, since they will use their own cpu's in only their own products as they stated so far, other companies will still make profit since their cpu's will remain be used in the other machines and devices

I think succeeding in a market involves a well written plan and strategy .
I believe that they have taken their time to plan for this , and will do well in the market .

There so many CPU manufacturers like intel, celeron, etc. The dynamics are found in each company's product. For I prefer Intel because it gives me what I actually need in processor like fast and doesn't get hot. Am waiting for what Apple will bring on-board.
celeron is one of intel cpu's, it's not a solo company, intel makes a lot of cpu's such as pentium, core i series, Xeon, atom, core2duo & quad, etc ...

The market will be more competitive because there are few big players in the market like HP, IBM, Dell, Toshiba etc. Apple product will only steam the market and jottle for market share. Though, tech market is a growing market which requires lots of research, development and greater innovation.
Yeeah i guess so the more the competition increases more the innovative consumer friendly tech pops up . At the end its a win win for us consumers

Is there any way you can break it down how Apple is gonna gain the market ahead of those existing in the business before it entrance. I know there are quite few players in the CPU/tech industry already.
from what apple said, their ARM cpu's will be used in its own notebooks, i'm not sure about the other products, and i also don't think that it will be capable of producing something heavy like intel Xeon cpu's that are used in its top range pc's

Is like they want to start from their Notebook before extending to other products. If outsourcing the CPU to intel will bring better profit margin than in-house production, it will be better to outsource and they will face other markets
i believe that it's gonna take a very long time for them to compete with Intel, especially that Intel is still taking over the market, even with the existence of AMD with its very decent processors that are known for their best price for quality

Yes, you are right. Production of CPU has been the main product line of Intel while for Apple it's just a semi finished goods for the completion of their product. Moreso, intel has been in the processor business for a very long time and knows how the market operates
not only that, but Nvidia is also planning to buy ARM CPU's from a chinese manufactor, which means more and more competition for Apple, the thing that would help it is the brand's name

The reason I feel Apple may have a greater advantage is that it is a big company to has all the resources to build a super efficient CPU that will challenge the existing once.

but still, it's a risk to buy a cpu that nobody bought before (in case it expanded its production from making it exist only in their products and make it public)
