Yes, You can try beginning with a RX 570/580. However, It won't be as efficient as using a GTX 1060.
I would recommend you to save the 175-200$ that will pay extra on the RX 570. They consume more power & there is only a 3% SOL difference if you mine ZCash (Which would be profitable).

Instead of going for a RX 580, I will recommend you to get 2x GTC 1060 and mine ZCash. As the return on investment would be faster on them.
Also, I will recommend you to use Awesome Miner.

thanks for info and i like GTX 1080 ti but cost is too high
I have a GTX 1080ti that I am currently mining altcoins with. I got lucky and bought the last one at Fry's Electronics the last week of December. I even got it for $100 off because it had been returned. Now, there isn't a single Fry's Electronics in California that has any in stock. EVERYONE is getting into mining for crypto now. That's why you have to pay $1,000+ for an $800 GPU card.

Hi,
1. What coin will you mine? Eth, Monero, etc
2. Where will you mine? Pool mining, NiceHash, etc

After you answer that 2 questions you can decide which Gpu is best.
But I suggest Gtx 1060 6Gb or higher.
Thanks

I think these cards are pretty good to start with, you can get pretty nice hashrate on Cryptonight-GPU(Ryocurrency) with these RX 580 AND RX 570, for extra hashrate use XMR-STAK miner which is best mining software to improve hashrate.

you'll save some bucks at the beginning when you purchase a rx 570/580 , but you'll have extra electricity bills to pay , since those AMD cards are well known for their huge power consumption ( that's another reason why they are kinda cheap ) .
instead, you could go for a gtx 1060 6g, also it's easy to resell ( in case you want to ) , just replace the fans and you're good to go ( also nvidia cards are more popular ) and the gtx 1060 is performing better than rx 580 ( not much better , but atleast better )

You can mine Cryptonight coins with these cards, I've the same cards and I'm mining RYO(Rycourrency) it's algo is so powerful which can actually increase hashrate and ultimately your profits. If you need any help about you can visit it's official Reddit r/Ryocurrency and ask anything you want to.

If you have cheap or even free electricity almost every GPU is profitable for mining but if you live in a country with high electricity costs even with the best hardware is not good enough. In 2016-2018 I had one Rig but I sell everything. Now I thinking about installing solar panels and if I make more electricity then I need maybe I start mining again. But right now mining in my country is a very unprofitable business.
About Graphic cards, I prefer Nvidia because they have lower working temperatures and power consumption.

Just wait until bitcoin price rise to above 10,000 USD again. Then maybe it will be profitable again for small-scale miners. It all also depends on your electricity cost though.

Consider mining RYO with RX580 and RX570 (you will get 780h/s on Rx70 and 935h/s on Rx580). You can also check whattomine for more deatils but Cryptonight-GPU (Ryocurrency) is best and most algorithm for these cards.

Have you tried mining Cryptonight-GPU(RYO) with GTX 1080ti? If you have not tried it yet than give it a try you will amazed with the results.
