As reported by Cointelegraph, back in 2018 Jonathan Khoo, a worker for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, a research organization contracted by the government of Australia had misused his position to install crypto mining code on two supercomputers that owned by the organization. In the end, he had able to mine about AU$9,420 of Ethereum and Monero, while the government lost about AU$76,668 worth of computing power and electricity. Instead of prison, Khoo was ordered to serve 300 hours of community service for local community.

Many people have a way of exploiting the government directly or indirectly. I guess he was just using his position as a government worker for illegal mining. I feel his sentence fits his crime.

He was lucky that he wasn't even jailed , thinking of the disadvantage and the loss incurred he should have stopped the mining , since its even a loss on its own even if he didn't use the organisation computer to mine

I remember a funny but similar incident that happened a few years back. A Russian worker in a nuclear power station was also using the supercomputer inside the facility to mine Bitcoin lol.

Yeah some people are just too greedy , even if they are paying him high salary he or she will still commit such crime because some people can never be satisfied

Such people are not really doing such illegal things because of low pay. Greed and the abuse of position is their driving force.

Could you imagine how much he could have made if he had not being caught without any form of expenses from his side? He was using government's electricity and super computers with him bearing no costs only profits.

Yeah that's the fact , i was even suprise that the expenses he spent on mining those crypto is even more than the profit made to

That's funny to me. He made some money close to 10k. I hope he's allowed to keep the money so he can buy powerful PC's to mine further coins. Mining with those super computers are not profitable from the above stats.

Yeah the cost of running those computers alone is too much , instead of even buying powerful pc there are mining rig to buy so you can start mining

Ok,what about the power consumption of the mining rigs? It'll be cost effective in countries with free or subsided energy. The Australian man was lucky though.

There are different types of mining rig so it depends on the capacity you buy , but the mining rig is more better than using a pc computer to mine

Is the amount of electricity very cost in your area because many factors can determine if it's profitable or not , factors like price of BTC , electricity cost , etc

Yes electricity cost is very high in my country and higher if you decide to run solely on generators. I guess registering with reputable platforms like Genesis is the best if you can't afford mining rigs.

I hate cloud mining sites because most times they are always scam and the person can even make loss instead of making profit from the site
