Did you ever, while making website, had 502 Gateway error nginx? On my current project I often got that error, site is very often down or very slow. I was looking solution online and it could be bad nameservers. I find one of solutions on hosting support forum and set new nameservers but problem is still there. I send report to support and I hope I will manage to solve it.

Did you ever had similar problem?

You mentioned your site is often very slow, so you could have a problem with your web server. If this is the case, Nginx (acting as a proxy) will cause a 502 Bad Gateway error if your web server (gateway) is either dead or not configured correctly.

If you could give me more information about your website, like how you host it and approximately how many visitors you have, I'd love to help you further. In the meantime, you could try to check the log files to know why exactly the error occurred.

Test site, I'm only visitor, profreehost is free domain provider, connected with other domain register. I Have several test sites there and I never had so much problems. I send report ticket trough Cpanel. When I got answer, I will posted here.

Oh, so you only have access to your files in "public_html"? Then there's nothing you can do except contact the administrators of the host like you said you've already done.

To elaborate on what I said in my last post, I think the problem has something to do with the web server. Since you're using shared hosting, it's possible that too many users are sharing the same server, or maybe that one is using their space for something memory heavy, which would cause the server to run out of memory and crash often. This would, in turn, cause the proxy, Nginx, to be unable to reach the web server and therefore give you, the visitor, a 502 Bad Gateway error.

If the problem remains you should probably considering trying out another free host, like "000webhost.com" or "freehosting.com", or upgrading to a premium one.

000webhost is trash. Don't ever use them. They're slow, unreliable, and had all their passwords leaked - my email account was hacked and all my contacts were emailed links to a dating site because of it.

I used x10hosting for the longest time. There was some brief outages, but most were fixed very quickly.

Ticket is still has status open but site is today much faster and I got only one time Gateway error. It's seems that provider doing something good.

I've never had any problems with 000webhost, but I agree that the data breach back in 2015 doesn't exactly strengthen their reputation. But similar things have happened to other big corporations like LinkedIn, Adobe, and Myspace. Is that a reason not to use their service? Don't you think they've learned from the experience and improved their security?

When I think about it, if 000webhost have learned from the event and improved their security, shouldn't the risk of something similar happening to them again in the future be smaller compared to some other web host?

Plus, even though I'm sorry about what happened with your email, using the same password for multiple accounts is never a good idea. Especially when it comes to an email account.

Not really. They were stupid enough to store the passwords in plaintext - they didn't even try. It's not just that though - they also inserted ads into your site and so on. It's something I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. I've had nothing but good experience with X10 and they're always the first people I recommend.

I know, I know - I was a lot less security-savvy back then lol

If you are getting too many 502 errors per day or month. I think it's time to change the host. Do note that if you are hosted with EIG branded host then you are going to have such issue. They are overselling their services and often the sites go down due to lack of bandwidth. So make sure to buy better hosting from other sites.

Strangley thing is website with gateway errors is new, but old sites on same hosting don't have such problems. They all work fine. Ticket still have status open.
