Follow Along Life of a transcriber

It seemed easy enough at first, just listen to the record and transcribe following the step by step guidelines. I must admit though, after struggling with this for a few months, that it's back breaking work.

I successfully joined Scribie. I will NOT recommend this site to anyone. Not only are the arguably the lowest paying transcription site out there, there is always a way to game you out of hard work on this site. To me it just barely escapes the labelling of a scam to get you to work the skin off your bones and then claim that your files were rejected without paying you a cent.

I've been on CrowdSurf. They're okay. I made it up to Reviewer status there, but even so it's difficult to earn more than US$30 a day working 16 hour long days at times. The bonus system is okay when they do pay it. Quite often they miss paying you this too, and when you're banking on it, well... it could be daunting.

I made it on CastingWords both as an editor and a transcriber. Their system was good and they paid well when you compare them to the others, but I was immature, just getting into transcriptions, and I missed up my chances with them. So there goes that. I would recommend them though.

I made it on Go Transcript. Initially, I was really scared because they can have some terrible audio files, but they do have some good ones too. I've had some successes there and was offered to try out for Editor. Now, I think of all the sites listed, you can actually make a bit of money on Go Transcript, but it's still below minimum wage.

I've tried and tried for Rev, but never made it past the test though I did everything according to their guidelines.

I am just terribly exhausted. Is there any transcription site at all that even pays a decent hourly wage that I haven't listed?

Transcription is really an art and you require a lof of skills in order to become a trancriber. If you have such skills then online jobs are ready to welcome you. Tyere are many websites which offer you to do this for them. Thank you so much and have a great future ahead!

I know AccuTran Global pays up to $0.40 per audio minute but I hardly think you'll consider that decent hourly wage. On the surface it looks like $24/hour but as you probably already know there is no telling how long it will take to decipher all that's being said on the audio. A ten minute audio could take two hours to transcribe, you know. That's the sad part. It would be good if the audios were clear and smooth then for sure we could plan for a decent wage. About Go Transcript, you are absolutely right. Work is there but the money is not so encouraging but in the end I guess it takes commitment and setting goals. With these kind of jobs we have to prepare to work much harder to see the true results.

Transcribing can be a very difficult job.It is a very well paid job, compared to other online jobs, but it can be very exhaustive,as I have read from other members posts.I have never tried it out, because I simply think it is not a good fit for me."Kizzie" I
would like to recommend you Humanitics,it is a well paying transcribing site, and the site pays all his members all the time.At least,as I have read, all the members said, that they have received their payments in time.

There is also Transcribeme that has the same rating with Go Transcript on Glassdoor reviews. I think I'll try transcribing one of these days.

One good thing about many of these Transcription companies is that they are open to workers all over the world. Some even accept persons with no prior experience as long as they can go through the training process and pass the test. So, yes it is another option but it takes patience and determination.

From what i see this job doesn't really fit you. You are a hard worker that is willing to work dozens of hours every day but for what? For 30$ working 16 hours? Hell no. Look for other method to sell your time for money because this is a domain where the payments are very small

I just recently signed up for TranscribeMe but still have to finish my exam. Got a little bummed out on it when I seen there were 3 exam recordings but also at the same time understand that they want to know you are good with a variety of recordings. So hopefully in the near future I go finish the exam and will be able to check it out.

I have tried those ones too, and yes you are right go transcript does have some bad audio, i am at casting words, it pays well a bit but most of the time there are less jobs. I'll try crowdsurf.

The thing with transcription, you need your typing skills, grammar skills and your hearing skills really work well. lol. it is really an exhausting job but an interesting way to earn some side money prior to a full time job.

You should look into textbroker, it is something you can do from home and earn money. You are not going to make a living unless you actually work for it.

I have read of Rev.com, and Scribie.com. Rev is actually a very strict site and actually I have heard from youtube sites as well that it requires prior experience,as a transcriber. You have to work in other sites before. Also, could you please tell us if crowdsurf and castingwords are for worldwide users? Also please could you tell me the payment method of these sites if they can be accessed by international users?

I made it on Rev, but the quality of the stuff they have available to transcribe is always horrible when I check it. I literally wonder how it's possible in 2019 to get recordings that sound so bad. A lot of the jobs available for transcription are phone calls from prison that have been recorded. Good luck with those...

I signed up for Rev captioning instead, but I got denied after the second test. I even know what I did wrong, and I could've easily corrected that in the future, but they are picky I guess.

I have wanted to try out transcription for a long time. I am currently learning transcription. I hear Rev is the best paying website but very strict in regards to accuracy. I can't wait to try transcription out. I guess for a newbie it is better to start out with the low paying but lenient websites and then move on to the better paying but strict websites such as Rev.

Which site among all those accept worldwide transcribers? And among them which pay through payoneer, bitcoin, skrill or webmoney?

Most transcribing sites accept worldwide freelancers, as long as you pass their exam. I'm not sure about others but Casting words pays its workers through Paypal only.

I believe if you are living in cheaper countries like India, those sites pay really well.
But if you are living in a 1st world country, i would strongly suggest you dont go for "work from home" since the local pay in your country will always be more.

Have you ever thought about trying to get transcribe work on your own. I met this woman who started a small transcribing business on her own, she made at least minimum wage and she was able to travel a bit. She really seemed to like it. Perhaps you could put an ad. in your local newspaper or try craigslist, or maybe word of mouth. It might take a while but maybe you might build up a clientele over tiour me. You have some experience now; use that as your advertising piece to get work beats breaking your back for some of these companies.

I agree, these transcription websites take a lot from you and in the end you don't get your effort's worth. Not to mention how focus demanding work it can turn out to be. It's tiring work and we deserve to be paid for for it.
