Namecheap Review – Best Domain Provider or NOT?

Posted on

Namecheap was founded in 2000 by Richard Kirkendall, who’s is still the CEO of the company. As the name suggests, they started out as a domain name registrar, but they’ve since then grown to also offer a variety of other services.

Domains
Namecheap offers hundreds of different TLD’s and is constantly adding new ones. This comes with features like free WhoisGuard and savings on annual renewals.

There are no fees for transferring domain names from or to Namecheap.

Hosting
There are many hosting options to choose from on Namecheap including the most popular, shared hosting and VPS hosting, as well as reseller hosting, clearance servers, dedicated servers, and private email hosting.

Shared Hosting
There are three shared hosting plans to choose from, starting at $30.88 per year, or $2.88 per month.

Stellar is the cheapest plan and offers 20 GB SSD-accelerated disk space, unmetered bandwidth, up to 3 websites, access to Namecheap’s website builder, and data centers located in the US or the UK.

Stellar Plus is ideal for more demanding websites and offers, in addition to what is already included in the Stellar plan, unmetered SSD-accelerated disk space and unlimited websites.

Stellar Business is the best option for business hosting and offers, in addition to what is included in the Stellar Plus plan, 50 GB Pure SSD disk space and fewer users per server.

There is a 50 percent discount on all plans at the first purchase.

VPS Hosting
A virtual private server, or VPS, is not a physical server but rather a set amounts of resources shared between a number of users. Namecheap offers two VPS hosting plans, starting at $19.88 per month.

Pulsar offers 2 CPU cores, 2 GB ram, 40 GB SSD, and 1000 GB bandwidth.

Quasar offers 4 CPU cores, 6 GB ram, 120 GB SSD, and 3000 GB bandwidth.

Security
SSL Certificate

Namecheap offers a lot of different SSL certificates depending on what level of security you need. All you have to do is to buy one and you’ll be able to activate it from the Account Panel.

WhoisGuard
WhoisGuard is included when buying a domain at Namecheap. What it does is that it replaces publicly available information about the registrar, such as name, email, address, and phone number, with their own to keep the registrar safe from e.g. spammers, scammers, and hackers.

PremiumDNS
For $4.88 per year, Namecheap offers a feature called PremiumDNS. PremiumDNS give you advanced features like DNS load balancing, anycast service, and advanced reporting capabilities.
