If you are not into web hosting, never owned or hosted a website before, you may not know
CPanel is actually a Control Panel for most web hosting applications. It is the back end where the website owner controls his website from, uploads files, makes changes, installs additional software, and configures other necessary settings.
It is one of the most popular Web Hosting back end application. I actually think it is the most popular.
